Any ideas on who our starters will be at Wideout?

I reference the story in the 11 offensive starters but...

Nick Olds is out with an ACL/MCL.

UGH!!!

Curious emdpo if you were dropping a hint?

(we were slow to get the story here).

Olds is out?! That's not good. Mitchell Dawkins, Quincy Jones--time to step up and seize the day.

Lets not forget Scott and Shelby who have game experience, we could also go double TE with Hoskins and Russell. My point is we have options.

Is Olds out for the year or how many games?

Nick Olds‏@Nick80Olds

Words gotten out fast but 4 those back home who still dono, i tore my ACL&MCL @ pract yesterday. Still excited 2 win this MAC w my team tho!

That sucks! He was our most reliable receiver last year. Time for Demarius Reed to take a big step in his sophomore year.

Adding to the players mentioned above me, Jay Jones is another to watch. As is true freshman Dustin Creel.

This will be the coaching staff's excuse for why we only pass 10 times a game.

RE: Wide Recievers
Dear holybovine,
Let's hope you are wrong. I can't believe after recruiting all these receivers the last couple of years, that Coach Karcher is going to only throw the ball ten times a game. My complaint from last year's team, was that we only seemed to throw the ball on third down. You aren't really fooling anyone's defense, when that's the only time you throw. If, Eastern decides to throw more, I think we could have a fantastic offense. I just hope Coach English and Coach Karcher are thinking to throw the ball more often.

Yeah I meant to include as part of the post "now that olds is out". I figure maybe more two tight end sets now.

Nick Olds is out? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31g0YE61PLQ)

That does suck though. All due respect, he wasn't the huge game-breaker on the team, not a real homerun-hitter. I feel like most of his totals came from a few "Go" routes when we were 3rd&15. Yes, that's Gillett's boy, no question about that. We can still be thankful we have Greene & Sherrer in the backfield and some very talented receivers (I'm going to say watch out for Donald Scott this year, I have a good feeling about him) and Hoskins/Russell at TE.
It's a loss, yes, but I don't think it's big enough to drop the season opener @ Ball State.

RE: Wide Recievers
This hurts our passing game on the 3rd down situations. I believe this position we are deep.

This is why having depth on the team at each position is so important. If I am not mistaking I thought I read that Olds had knee problems before, maybe not..

I think we can still use his leadership and encouragement throughout the season.

Didn't he have to miss a full season because of that?

After re-listening to this, Gillette seemed to be okay with what he has as reciecvers. I did hear that the plan is to throw more then before. I know certain people on here will be happy.

It should be interesting listening to the other interviewing of the other guys..

Good to hear. It's a position we need help at. Other than D. Reed, we have no proven commodities now that Olds is hurt. Someone like Donald Scott, Jay Jones, or Julius Shelby needs to step up. If any of the freshmen can produce immediately, that's a bonus.

BTW - Today is Julius Shelby's 21st birthday. Happy Birthday Julius! (I love his Christian/family/inspirational tweets.)

One name I've heard from several sources is Dustin Creel.

RE: Wide Recievers
Awesome. If he can translate success in practice to actual games, we may have a helluva player. He's a pretty big kid (6'2-6'3ish, solidly built) that seemed to play pretty fast in his clips from high school. Pretty well-rounded receiver.
