Origins Of A Pirate Fan!
Greetings, Pirate Nation! Just got thru reading several posts over at Blazertalk by a fan of a SWAC school wanting to know how we became UAB fans. It was so much fun answering that question, I thought I'd try it on for size at every Conference USA representative, beginning with East Carolina. So, if it's not prying, please, I'd love to read your stories/origins. How did you become a fan of East Carolina???! Thanks again for the indulgence (can you feel how close the new football season is at hand??! - the anticipation has got me going )

(they're probably thinking the same thing at the Old Dominion and UTSA board!) Just expanding my "frontier" a bit more. Thanks for sharing your story, a vintage "family affair"... Far as I know, I've only had one relative attend UAB, a niece. Would love (but won't impose) to see my daughter once she becomes of age, consider UAB as her preferred institute for higher learning, make it so & encourge the same for any offspring she may have to keep our bloodline as part of Blazer Nation somehow, but again, she'll have the last word on that.

Both parents were ECU grads. First game experience was listening to the Peach Bowl on the radio. Hooked ever since.

RE: Origins Of A Pirate Fan!
Had never heard of ECU before I graduated high school. Applied to come here along with a few other schools, made the visit and loved the town and never left. Remember suffering through a few 3-8 seasons back in the day when we were still an independent, but we had some helacious schedules. I've seen the struggle ECU has gone through for national recognition first hand. Use to get mauled by teams like Miami, West Va, Florida State, etc and now those same teams are leery of playing the Pirates. (Everything to lose, nothing to gain mentality). For years we've played as the underdog with a chip on our shoulders and it's helped us to "upset" teams from the ACC, BE, SEC, etc. Most of my family that lives in NC have now become ECU fans. Ready for APP STATE !! Let's get it on !!

I became a Pirate fan while a student at ECU... Prior to that, I had always pulled for GT, my dad's alma mater.
