I wish I could figure out why there are differences in the ADP and BLS numbers. I wonder if they adjust seasonally differently.

In June ADP said 177k new jobs. BLS said 80k. The 177 was revised down to 172, but still that a huge difference between the two.

Initial claims topped 365k last week, 5k less than expected but still not a good number.

At this point I don't know what/who's stats to believe anymore.

Fair point.

I'll be interested to see what the number is tomorrow from the BLS. I think it will largely depend on how many people reentered the workforce looking for jobs. I don't expect any signficant addition that would move the number.

The BLS is the one everyone uses. It's the easiest and most consistent to comare over longer periods of time... but when that isn't working for you, politicians will point to "other" sources.
