Athlon Sports: 2012 College Football Awards: Dual-Threat Quarterbacks
4. Ryan Aplin, Arkansas State (SR)
Gus Malzahn couldn't not have asked for a better quarterback to be ready and waiting when he arrived in Jonesboro. And Aplin couldn't have asked for a better scheme for his dual skillset. En route to a Sun Belt championship, Aplin threw for 3,588 yards and 19 scores while leading his team in rushing (588 yards, 10 TD). Now, the power speed spread will only futher enhance Aplin's ability to punish defenses both on the ground and through the air.
16. Blaine Gautier, UL Lafayette (SR)
Awesome 2,958-23-6 passing line to go with 486 yards and three more scores on the ground.

Nice! We do have some very talented QB's in the SBC. ULM's and Troy's QB's are great and very dangerous as well.

Gautiers numbers are more impressive when you consider he played but didn't become the starter until the the fourth game of the year. He played the most in the opener against OK St, but hardly played the next two games.

Athlon's Top 25 Heisman Contenders for 2012
21. Ryan Aplin, QB, Arkansas State (SR)
2011 Stats: 3,588 yds, 19 TD, 16 INT, 588 rush yards, 10 TD
The dual-threat Red Wolves signal caller posted huge numbers as a junior and could be poised for a massive statistical campaign in 2012. He now has spread guru Gus Malzahn — who will design a system that will fit his skillset perfectly — calling plays for him on the defending Sun Belt championship squad. With talented wide receivers around him, Aplin has a great chance to be this year's Mid-Major darling.

Indeed, ULM's Browning had 443 yards rushing with 5 TD's and 2,483 passing last season. Robinson ain't too bad his own self.

The SBC has some very high quality football players at various schools throughout the conference. I am of the opinion that SBC football will have a very good year.

Worried about both! But Aplin is tops in the SBC in my opinion. Is he tall enough for the NFL?
