If I read this correctly we are a consensus a 3.5 point underdog. (odds are bet 11 to win back your 11 + 10 wiin, hence the -10. That has nothing to do with the point spread).

Just a feelng, but I think Eastern wins by ten points. Not based on anything, as I said.

In my mind, this game is the season.
I don't think that there has been a more important football game that EMU has played in since I've followed the program.
This one is a MUST WIN.

Absolutely. I don't see how EMU can get to 7-5 without winning this game.

I think it will be a shoot out. Their defense should be worse than it was last year...and it wasn't very good then. Our defense has some new guys, and it may take a while for them to click.

Wenning is a pretty good QB, and they have a few good returnees at RB and WR. I'm pretty sure they lost some starters on the o-line, so that should be a factor in the first game of the season.

To win, Gillett has to have a big game. He torched BSU last year, so their should be no reason he can't do it again with the same skill position players returning. I think we make one more stop than they do and come away with the victory.

This is a sucker bet. I got us winning by 13 points with a TD by the ST and one for the defense. Guys, I really don't see too many weakness in this team other then injuries. If our QB stays healthy we should do well.

Yes, we are young at the safety position but I think we have better athletics overall.

Hopefully all of you are going to the game/know others who want to go to the game/know students who want to go to the game.

I understand that this game is a 5-6 hour road trip, but I think it'd be amazing if we can get the some sort of respectable sized crowd out of our students/alumni for the big occasion!

Ball State o line allowed only 11 sacks last year, 3 returning starters.

The defense last year gave up 500 yards in 2/3 of their games, only 1 returning defensive line, 2 LB, 2 DB.

The more I think about it, this game could be our season agree? We can start out going 3-0 or 1-2. I see 3-0 (anyone surprise ?)

The way I see Ball State has an above average offense but a defense that may be the worst in the MAC.

Our offense is also above average and our defense overall is much stronger than Ball State's.

If Vegas is giving EMU points and taking Ball State, I say take the bet.

I totally agree with you, and with NUPudge, in the fact that Eastern could be 3 - 0 to start the season. I think the only reason the point spread is what it is, because Eastern is playing there. I also agree with the fact that this game could have much to do about how the season turns out.

I think EMU will win this. Part of my logic is looking at the end of last season. Eastern gained under-pressure experience and learnedc some tough lessons.
Despite knocks on the D, they held NIU to one of its lowest point-totals of the season and way below their average. They were a dropped ball away from winning that game.
The running game looks huge. Pure, straight-up evaluation of our RBs is that I would take our crew over UM or MSU.
But -- if we lose this, the season is not over. To think so is just silly. National champions have lost their first games. Same for conference champions. Opening games never decide the season.

I think the key this year, like major league baseball this season, will be injuries and injuries to key individuals.

Those watching MLB may remember that there were so many injuries early on the season it got to be like a war zone.

Last season I don't remember a whole lot of key injuries. We were lucky.

Except when we played toledo without both starting guards and Sherrer at rb.

We also lost Marcus English for most of the year.

Korey Neal, Javonti Greene, Latarrius Thomas, and Devon Davis also missed some time.

We didn't have any catastrophic injuries, but we had our fair share of injury troubles.
