Swofford interview from Tallahassee

There is a lot in there about Syracuse and Pitt being a good "fit".

An interesting bit about them evaluating schools constantly in case they ever need to add members.

RE: Swofford interview from Tallahassee
I liked his answer about whether schools are reinvesting in football. While I do think Duke in particular HAS been reinvesting in football recently, I for one want them to continue focusing on what the Blue Devils do best - win NCAA tournament games. That brings in more money than a 6-6 or 7-5 bowl team would. (That's not to say Duke should go 0-12 every year either, but I don't think the current coaching staff will sit for that).

I feel a new thread coming on... how has your school invested in football recently?

If UVA could get their s••t together this league wouldn't be maligned. Plus Wake bball needs a rejuvenation.

Quote:But in terms of overall quality and mission of the institution from an academic standpoint, if that isn't a good fit, the conversation doesn't go very far with our presidents.

ACC membership (and likely B1G membership, too) is not centered around football, as much as the "fan" in us wants it to be.

This makes total sense if you think about it. Conference mates are really business partners. If they were simply compiling the best "team of teams" (what fans think they are doing) it would be different, but when you are sharing your business (the ACC) with new partners (SU & Pitt) you have to make 100% sure you can trust them not to bring the whole thing down, not to make you a party to a lawsuit, etc. That explains why the ACC was not interested in some teams with excellent football teams... the current members of "the firm" just didn't trust them.

My my... this guy just had an epiphany. I think my work here is done.

"Epiphany"? I'll thank you not to use language like that here... this is a sports blog!

Wake basketball will be down for at least two or three more years. Our scholarship spacing is a mess and we need a new coaching staff.
