Pitt and the OOC Schedules: Who do you want to see moving forward?
I posted Pitt's future OOC schedules below. Aside from the mess in 2014, Pitt is largely set up for the 9 conf game schedules already. Unless PSU is dropped from the schedules, it appears there won't be much excitement with new and interesting OOC opponents for Pitt until 2017 rolls around. My guess is that Pitt will probably play 2 "BCS" schools OOC probably 5 times out of 10, with the other half being 1 BCS, 1 MAC and 1 FCS. Since ND is only signed through 2016, what schools would you like to see hit the OOC schedule within the next 5 years? Here are some schools I'd be interested in seeing scheduled in the future in no particular order. Right now, I'll say it up front that I'm not enamored with playing PSU anymore, so they will not make my list. Also, some of the schools that I'd like to see are not necessarily "power" FB schools but have some connection to Pitt.

My List
Notre Dame (annually if possible), Navy (regularly, but not annually), Ohio State (Close by, great FB school), Michigan (another great school, reasonably close), Illinois (Pitt played them a number of times in the past), Nebraska (just to see if SP can swing this deal...), UCLA (from Pitt's indy days), Georgia (had some history together), ASU (beat Graham's ass!), Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma

2013
08/31 - Villanova
10/26 - at Navy
11/09 - Notre Dame

2014
08/30 - Delaware
09/13 - at Florida International
09/20 - Iowa
09/27 - Akron
11/08 - at Notre Dame

2015
09/12 - at Akron
09/19 - at Iowa
11/14 - Notre Dame

2016
09/10 - Penn State
10/29 - at Notre Dame

2017
09/16 - at Penn State

2019
08/31 - Delaware

Here's what I could come up with:

2013 - Same.

Villanova
@ Navy
ND

2014 - Choices 1 OR 2

Delaware FIU
Akron
@ ND

2015

@ Akron
ND
Delaware FIU

2016

PSU
@ ND FIU
Delaware

I tried to have a post dilineating teams we may play in certain spots - just assume if you see "Delaware FIU" that's what that means.

I wouldn't make any presumptions about removing Iowa from the 2014/15 years. I'm very close to that program. They've published schedules through 2015 with us on it including B1G dates. The problem was scheduling Akron H/H. Gee, I wonder who did that? I'll guess that series gets 'modified' in some fashion.

I also wouldn't believe Paul Zeise's blog observations about the make up of our future schedules, i.e., 1aa, MAC, and ND. I don't believe that is inside information, just PZ being PZ.

Love the initial list of other majors listed, maybe add Texas A&M? Drop Navy. With GT we don't need to expose our DL to any more cut blocks per season. Since Navy will be playing up in the BE, I doubt they will schedule another Major team except for ND.

Prepare for more PSU someday. :o)

Between having to schedule 5 non-conf games every season, smallish BE TV revenues, and average, at best, attendance, I suspect that it was increasingly difficult to schedule MAC/Sun Belt teams for anything other than an equal split.

It might just be PZ being PZ, but I really wouldn't bet against it. Sure, you may have some years with FCS, BCS, BCS, but I would guess that they may try to get as many "one and done" games as possible, so you are looking at mostly MAC and Sun Belt team for that 2nd game. What they may do is schedule some breaks with ND to get some other BCS teams into their schedule.

I love having Navy on the schedule. Such a great road trip.
