Seriously? Our local coverage is not good. Yeah, during the football season they covered the football games, it was the biggest thing in town. But their coverage of other sports sucks. You MIGHT get BBall highlights, if we're at home. When on the road you're lucky to get a score...and then it is usually a halftime score when the game is already over. Our local coverage of UTSA Athletics is average at best.

Perhaps your expectations are too high? They give us more than enough coverage during football season. I've also attended BB games being broadcasted on cable. As far as the Olympic sports, well, I have never seen coverage of women's volleyball. Not even for UT, not even in Austin.
I have seen coverage of our spring game. I'm sure they are not gonna report much on recruiting, given it's speculative nature.

Well I might be the minority but I'm happy with our coverage. Is there room for improvement? Sure, but you have to think about the product we are putting out; A 4-6 team against FCS or lesser competition. If we were a SEC team with multiple bowl series and a NC or two then our coverage would be highly inadequate. But, we are just a transitional FCS team with 1 losing year under our belt. We need to get over ourselves.

The original post asked about media coverage of the local team, not whether you could occasionally watch a game on cable, which is not media coverage. And yes, as I pointed out, they did an adequate job of covering UTSA football, but their coverage of basketball sucks. Rarely do you get road highlights and often not even an updated score. Sometimes you don't even get highlights from the home games. As far as Austin TV, I used to live in Austin and yes, they did often show volleyball scores and even highlights. Not all the time, but often. I don't expect our local media to cover vball or other minor sports, but they should AT MINIMUM show highlights from football and men's and women's basketball.

I never saw a VB game broadcasted in Austin, except on the LHN.
I think we need to slow down a bit and give credit where it's due. The local media has done an adequate job, given the demand for UTSA sports. Who wants to watch games from the southland conference against SE Lousiana? So, given the demand, we get plenty of coverage. When we join C-USA, the demand should increase and coverage as well. If the coverage remains the same then as it is now, then I'd argue we aren't getting enough.

Once again, we are talking about media cobersge, not game broadcasts. Media coverage means the news and sports shows covering the games by showing highlights and scores during their newscasts or talking about them on the radio. No one is expecting them to air volleyball games on TV.

Yes, I am aware of the meaning of media coverage. Just the same that nobody wants to watch a game against SE Louisiana, nobody wants to read about it. Playing in the southland conference was akin to playing division 2 or 3. I don't remember the last time I watched or read highlights of trinity university's sports. Mainly, because nobody cares. You can't expect them to demand more coverage, since the amount of people interested in their athletics is very limited.

My point is very simple, when you consider the amount of interest, we get plenty of coverage. UTSA has been forever disenfranchised from the San Antonio people. They simply weren't interested in our games against SFA. We are yet to play a down of FBS football or in a competitive BB league. Not sure if you were expecting the local media to bum rush our press conference after each game. That is just simply not going to happen, and it won't for another 3-5 years at the very least.

In the end, we may be speaking of two different animals. You contend that we don't get enough attention, and that is possibly true. Afterall, you can never get enough attention. I'm claiming that we do get enough attention, given the fact that we have been playing in a meaningless league and we are just about to get out of it.

Compared to the media coverage UTSA was receiving before 2010, it's like the difference between night & day. You could probably count how many articles were written about UTSA sports in one semester on one hand. And it should only continue to grow as the competition becomes better & more recognizable.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to get the sense that the Express News does not have 1 person committed to bring the UTSA beat writer. It seems as if they have about 3-4 people covering the local & area high schools & colleges. With Jerry Briggs concentrating on UTSA, TXST,& UIW .
