It is easy to say Duke or UNC but they already have each other to hate. IMO the teams that might fit the bill (UMD, BC and VT) all suck at hoops. I guess by default it will be Pitt?

I understand we had no choice but to leave the BE but G'town and UConn cannot be replaced imo.

I could get used to not playing Uconn, but we have to continue to beat the Hoyas.

I can only hope we play them every year but who knows at this point. JB is not one for big OCC games so as much as I would like to fit UConn, St, Johns, G'Town or 'Nova into our yearly schedule I think the best we can hope for is maybe 1 of them.

Syracuse won't play Duke & UNC in football every year, though you will play BC, Maryland, and Pitt. You also won't play UVa or VT annually (wrong division). You will play NC State, Wake Forest, Clemson and FSU. You won't play GT or Miami.

Since the size is comparable and both are private schools, what about Wake Forest?

For it to be a rivalry both sides have to hate each other. Duke and UNC already have each other. Hard for us to jump into the middle of that. So it may be a rivalry for SU fans but Duke/UNC fans are going to think very little of it.

Maryland and BC both suck. So it will have to be Pitt by default.

I really wish they would have gone to 16 and brought UConn or L'ville.

I could see either Maryland or NC State becoming rivals with Syracuse in basketball.

Syracuse-Duke-UNC will be the consensus top 3 most years, but I see Maryland, NC State, and Pitt as the most likely programs to consistently find themselves in the top 5 most years.

Again this is all a guess, but I predict 10 years from now ACC basketball will have stratified into the following tiers:

Tier 1:
UNC
Duke
Syracuse

Tier 2:
NC State
Maryland
Pitt

Tier 3:

Everybody else

Even if my ACC basketball tier predictions are wrong there's just something about Red schools hating Orange schools lol. (St. Johns, Rutgers, etc)

Pitt is an obvious choice. BC lacks the hoops performance. NC State and FSU could arise as the new hoops rivals. I'm not convinced that VATech's hoops are going to be considered rivalry unless VATech beats the Orange a few times or the football animosity that once was pops up in hoops.

FSU, Clemson and GATech have an advantage in that they have rarely, if ever, seen Syracuse hoops. They could easily grow to hoops rivals if they can ignore the hype and come our swinging, especially FSU as they are strong in hoops right now.

FSU will never be a basketball rivalry for Syracuse. They are too different culturally and SU fans will never view FSU as a basketball rivalry, even if FSU beats us 9 out of 10 times, Syracuse fans will never consider FSU to be our rival in basketball. Oh, and SU fans will never care about playing FSU in basketball.

Considering that many SU fans see Pitt as a basketball rival it will be them in the ACC. Remember that game at Pitt, 2 seasons ago, where the Panthers were up 19-0 to start the game, and Syracuse came storming back with 17 straight unanswered? Pitt pulled it out in the end. I believe both teams were ranked in the top 5.

For now I think there will be a 6 team basketball group consisting of Syracuse, Pitt, Maryland, UNC, Duke and NC St
Va Tech, UVa, Clemson, FSU & Miami will occasionally crash the party. Wake, BC and Ga Tech are still hung over.

Yeah, I remember that game. It was a great game, but at the same time the most bizaare game that I ever saw, at the beginning. I have never seen one team start a game on a 19-0 run, and then the other team goes on a 17-0 run. Simply AMAZING!
