I think you'll see South Florida attendance pic up, the pics I've seen of their basically new arena are quite impressive!

I expect UC to climb quite a bit this season. There is a better buzz about the program coming off the Sweet 16 appearance and the schedule is better. I think we will be above 10K at least.

I agree with Sub....I think UC will pick back up again. Back in the day when we were at our height under Huggs we ave over 12,000/game and Kmart's big year we averaged a sell out for the year (13,176). People love a winner....esp in Cincy.

Here's a look at how the 2013 Big East Conf might look like, using 2011-2012 figures.

NOTE: Big East plays 9 conf home games while CUSA and A-10 play 8. Some Big East teams average 2,000-3,000 more per conf home game than they do for non-conf home games...so most of the new Big East teams should see a nice bounce in attendance during their first few years in the conf and hopefully the Big East will keep an 18 game conf schedule.

2011-2012 Conf Game Attendance looking at 2013-2014 Big East Line-up:

1) Louisville 22,038
2) Memphis 16,696
3) Marquette 16,040
4) Connecticut 13,517
5) Georgetown 12,994
6) Cincinnati 10,907
7) Villanova 10,336
8) St. John's 9,868
9) Providence 9,667
10) DePaul 9,415
11) Notre Dame 8,653
12) Seton Hall 8,362
13) Temple 7,177
14) UCF 6,836
15) Rutgers 6,451
16) USF 5,015
17) Houston 4,135
18) SMU 2,104

RE: Basketball attendance numbers
All full members should see their attendance increase as they transition to the Big East. Simply bigger-name programs coming to their arenas vs. C-USA/A-10 squads will push the numbers up. I'd be curious to see Temple's especially with so many Big East teams (Nova, G-Town, Rutgers) so close by.

Memphis averaged 16,768 for 2011. Not bad for a C-USA school. That would place us 7th nationally & 3rd in the Big East.

Agree Beej...but like it or not, this type of article is out there and people read it. Perception is a huge deal and this type of piece doesn't help any of us perception-wise.

RE: Basketball attendance numbers
It would be better to add percent capacity, just to standardize the numbers.

...anyways, Cincinnati's attendance should be much better with a decent OOC game and a good slate of Big East home games (get a bulk of the lower tier teams on the road), I am expecting 10k+ for the season and 12k+ for the Big East slate.

Based on last years attendance Temple would have slipped in right behind St John’s and right in front of Cincinnati (58th overall, 8165 per home game). Based on the move from a good conference in the A10 to the Big East I feel like that number should take a nice move up. Nice to see they would have fallen near the middle of the pack.

Memphis will help but not sure many of the existing BE teams will improve. Cuse and Pitt were great draws and Cuse fans helped fill a lot of arenas in the BOS-WASH. I see the new teams all increasing. I think UCF, Houston and SMU all make big jumps. Memphis will be Memphis--->a league leader. Temple not sure...but I think it goes up solidly.

USF should see a huge jump since they are moving back home to campus and will play in their renovated arena....and coming off their best Big East season ever (first trip to NCAA's in 20 years).

Also, Pitt wasn't much of a "road draw"...but yes, Syracuse fans did help fill a lot of empty seats all over the East Coast and especially in FLA.

If St Johns can jump back...their crowds should grow as well.

Even teams like Rutgers, who normally struggled in past games vs Syracuse, Pitt and WVU, if they can add more conf wins to their side...they too might see a jump up from their historically low attendance figures...as everyone loves a winner.

As far as the newbies:

Temple (join Hoops in 2013) should see a nice increase as well...as their season tix sales alone will help fill in a lot of seats, not counting single game tix sales...as they will probably play "home-home" games with Nova each and every year.

SMU, which has historically terrible attendance, will be playing in a newly renovated arena in 2013...so they too should see a nice attendance jump.

UCF, which averaged approx 7,400 for CUSA games the last 2 seasons in their 9,400 seat arena, should see a nice jump in all games from increased season tix sales...and a lot more single game tix sales (from both UCF Bandwagon fans that want to see Big East teams play, plus Big East alumni....that will attend games in much larger numbers vs what CUSA teams use to bring...which for most games...might have been 10-20 fans at most).

Houston...they need a new arena or a renovated building fast...as even when they have good/solid teams, their attendance is poor, especially for a program with amazing history/tradition.

Memphis, which last year had higher attendance to their non-conf games than they had for CUSA games, should see a heck of a lot more sellouts when Big East teams come to town...so their season tix sales, already pretty high, will only go higher in the coming years.

Has nothing to do with close by. Being in the BE and playing teams of national relevance should draw more fans. I expect us to average close to a sell out for season.

Of course BE teams will draw more fans than C-USA/A-10. My point is that the games will draw more attention especially at Temple with the Owls being in the same conference as Nova, G-Town, and Rutgers, teams whose fanbases possibily co-mingle. This will be especially so when playing Nova. Sure they share the same town but it was still an OOC game. This could blossom into one of the most bloody rivalries of the Big East when conference standings and championships are on the line.
