A way VT could come out ahead schedule-wise if Pitt and Cuse join in 2013.
I've mentioned in previous posts that VT could essentially lose a home game vs. Pitt, that we will have played the away game for this year, if they join in 2013 because in all likelihood the VT home game will get absorbed into the ACC schedule. And that's fine because GT had to play @VT in back to back years for scheduling reasons.
Well, I was looking at VT's future schedules and the ACC could make up for that by adding more Clemson and/or FSU games in 2013-2016. VT is currently not scheduled to play Clemson again until 2016 and in that 4 year span, only play FSU in 2013. If the new schedules are drawn up from scratch without regard to who has played who during the first part of the planned schedules then VT can hopefully do better than playing each of them once in 4 years.
I would think ESPN would weigh in on the schedules they think are most marketable and VT will end up playing Clemson and FSU several times from 2013-2016. So, VT would come out ahead by playing most of the FSU/Clemson games from the old schedules and luck into front loading the next schedule with them. As long as there's no more realignment it won't matter because we'll play everyone the same amount but as unstable as things have been I'd rather get the cross division games vs. Clemson and FSU on the schedule early.
On the other hand, we could get double screwed and lose the FSU game in 2013. But at least that's an away game.

I could live with that (playing Clemson & FSU again ahead of schedule)
