Sure, traditional BE schools like Georgetown, Villanova and St. Johns will still be there along with new members like DePaul and Marquette. However, the FB playing side of the conference is very different. If the BE and ND still has the 4 game scheduling agreement for FB where ND plays existing BE FB schools, that could be a huge turnoff for ND because there are no current schools that ND has a strong tradition with anymore. Also, schools like Rutgers, UCONN and Louisville are probably looking for the first opportunity to leave. So the concern that ND jumps to another conference, if the opportunity presents itself, is valid. Also, ND has expressed an interest in having its olympic sports play in a "BCS" conference (or whatever the new name is). It's not clear if the BE will be one of those conferences at this point in time. That too should be a legitimate concern for ND. JMO.

It's a legitimate take. The conference has changed an awful lot since ND first joined it. We don't know if that is a factor or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is. Also, we know with reason that Louisville is trying to get into the Big12 and that UCONN has made a full court press to try to get into the ACC last year. It's not unreasonable to assume that ND would not want to see any more defections from the BE without considering that a change in scenery may be within their best interest. No one knows at this point if it will happen, but there are rumblings that the Irish may be looking to leave.

Editorial pieces are not their strong suit as of late. They're more interested in making news than reporting it.

RE: ESPN Disinformation Quote Of The Week
The entire world knew that the Freeh Report was going to be released on Thursday morning....so who did ESPN plan to work its special Sports Center coverage of the release of this report?
None other than Matt Millen, one of the biggest Paterno/Penn State apologists on the planet (guess Phil Knight of Nike was too busy).
In this article on how STUPID (again) ESPN was in selecting Matt Millen for this coverage, believe this columnist at The Daily News said it best when he was trying to describe those at ESPN that make decisions like this:
If the Faculty at Bristol Clown Community College valued their own credibility, they would've put Millen in mothballs and not let him within 65 miles of the story.
Matt Millen’s biased defense of Joe Paterno on ESPN indefensible

ESPN is/has become a laughing stock. They are doing everything they can to bash the BE, but have totally gone so far over the line that it can't be ignored any more. They are the MSNBC of the sports world.

That is a great article. Paterno ran that University and he had more power than the AD and the Prez. The AD was going to fire Paterno back in the mid 2000's and he went over to Joe's house and Joe told him off.

Update - the Big 10 blog mentioned this subject on 6/26/12 ... ESPN says the NCAA cannot give out the death penalty because no NCAA rules were violated. But what if crimes were committed to protect the football program and its recruiting? The NCAA is powerless to do anything in that situation? What a farce.
I can tell you this - if it were one of the Universities in the NBE today they would have been shut down yesterday.

I was watching all the coverage, as soon as the Freeh Report was released yesterday. At some point early on, it occurred to me that if ESPN had any sense of decency, they would pull Millen off the air and save him from himself. Same with airing that painful interview with Jay Paterno.

Forget who said it (might have been Ron Dibble on Fox Sports last night) but in talking about the same subject above, he noted that Paterno, after a 61 career at Penn State, was not only the most powerful man at the Univ for a very long time, but the 2nd most powerful person in the STATE (behind the Governor), but in some cases, THE most powerful person in the state.
Of course, its somewhat ironic that the current Pennsylvannia Governor, who is automatically on the BOARD of TRUSTEES at Penn State, was once the State's Attorney General, who's office decided NOT to bring chargers against Sandusky....and, even though he had access to the previous investigations, NEVER TOLD anyone else on the Penn State BOT about Sandusky's past...all while Sandusky was enjoying FREE access to Penn State's facilities, along with the prestigious Emeritus Status, while continue to molest even more children.

Listening to all this yesterday, I wondered how many other people outside these identified 4 (Paterno, Spanier, Curley, Schultz) had knowledge of this and sat on it. No way it was limited to those 4.
I also wonder how much longer Sandusky had been raping boys back before 1998, and if anybody had any warning signs any earlier.

Yep...that press conf that included two Board of Trustees yesterday was a joke....on how NONE of the 32 BOT's have offered their resignations.

ESPN sucks so bad...I wish we could pull our hoops from them. They do want our hoops and it would be giving them a huge middle finger if we could strike a deal with nbc for hoops too
