Yeah, it always aggravated me that the University of Texas at Austin wanted to be known as the Texas Longhorns. Who do they think they are.

Or Nebraska Lincoln, Wisconsin Madisson, Minnesota Twin Cities, Nevada Reno, California Berkeley, LSU A&M at Baton Rouge, North Carolina Chapel Hill, etc., etc. Try calling those schools by their official names and see if they get insulted.

It does not bother me in the least if you call us Texas State University at San Marcos because we do occupy a campus in Round Rock , Texas also. We can have debate on this subject all you want. What is your official name? University of North Texas at Denton? You have branch campuses correct? I believe you have a branch campus in Dallas.

After all, Texas University is identified as University of Texas at Austin due to their branch campuses.

The official name is University of North Texas. As the flagship for the system there isn't 'at Denton' attached. University of North Texas at Dallas is the official name of the other campus. It's not really a 'branch' campus. Its an independent university within the UNT system. UNT Health Science Center is in Ft. Worth and is the system's medical school.

But it seems I struck a nerve. Not sure why some feel their schools OFFICIAL name is a dig, but it is annoying. The Texas fans I know don't seem to be bothered when their school is referrred to as UT-Austin

That is because the Sam Houston State announcers would call us San Marcos at our football games in Huntsville. To me it made Sam Houston look bad because they had refused to use the full name at the football game. We won the game and they had little to say afterwards.

First, I will preface this by saying I don't care what you call us. I keep it simple and just say "bobcats" but that's just me.

Having said that though... Our ACTUAL name is NOT Texas State at San Marcos, nor is it Texas State University at San Marcos.

It's Texas State University-San Marcos (no space, and that's not a hyphen... even though it LOOKS like a hyphen, it's a dash)

I have no idea who made the decision to avoid the "at", and I am absolutely dumbfounded that the university decided that we needed to use the "dash" as opposed to a hyphen.

But taking that a step further, I have no idea who it was in the history of man who made the differentiation between a dash and a hyphen. Nor do I know of anyone who can tell the difference on a visual glance.

However, some bobcats seem to be irked by being called San Marcos, and Sam Houston fans latched onto it. Ergo, when someone uses the WHOLE name, it is seen as a slight.

That picture of the mascot looks (to me) one of two ways:

1. The horse has no eyes, and is therefore kinda creepy (I know... pot/kettle and all since our mascot has GREEN eyes), or

2. The black eyelids are very pronounced, making the mascot look REALLY high.
