RE: Penn State - The ONE Thing
Are you guys serious about this lack of institutional control thing? IF covering up child molesting for 14 years isn't lack of institutional control, then the clause should be struck from the books. What a joke.
The NCAA has the jurisdiction to do whatever they want to do to the PSU FB program. Whether they do or not, remains to be seen.

There is no precedent for this- either way.
With the Baylor case there were recruiting improprieties and other violations that caused the NCAA to act.
There is no "smoking gun" here as it relates to athletics, which is what the NCAA is responsible for.
I think the NCAA will attempt to do something- but they are so far down the list that they will only get to pick at the carcass that will be Penn State.

No.
If any drops PSU, I suspect they'll have a hard time filling the game.

Lack of institutional control as defined by the NCAA seems to be defined differently than the lack of control at an institution we see here. Take a look at the link >>

RE: Penn State - The ONE Thing
Since they covered up child molestation, probably the most heinas of crimes, no telling over 40 plus years what else that scumbag and others at PSU covered up for year's.
I feel for folks that are alums. That is a great academic institution. For those wandering why donations are up. I am certain a lot of alums are proud to have gone there and know it is time to pitch in and help clean up the mess and move on.

I'd guess the NCAA will do something also. Mostly because of the public pressure. I'd wager they use Paterno's influence over punishments with football players and expand that out somehow and make a connection here. Just a guess.

I think if the NCAA did try to give them the death penalty, it will only make lawyers from both sides richer.

Tough one to answer, eh? I guess first I'd question our AD why Memphis agreed to fill the spot in the first place. But that's besides the point. In your question the assumption is made that Memphis has already decided to play, so based upon that... I'd want to show my support for the Tigers and attend, while still displeased with the decision to play them at all. Maybe with some sort of silent protest? I'd also hate to see the current PSU players punished for something they had no control over. At least that's how I feel right now.
Who knows what would happen? Is it within the realm of possibility to donate Memphis' portion of the payout to child protection charities or some variation there of? I don't know the right answer, because right now, IMO there isn't one. I'd guess I'd only attend once all my moral questions had been answered to my satisfaction.

RE: Penn State - The ONE Thing
What no one on the PSU board is saying(of the threads I read) is that NO ONE called the police AT ANY STAGE of reporting.
What sense does it make that Paterno fulfilled his responsibility by reporting up?
EVERYONE to whom incidents were reported was lawfully bound to make the call immediately.
Hell, forget the law, the very fact that we are a civiized society dictates that level of responsibility.

Yes, I'm outraged and ashamed that this was allowed to occur in our country.

your dancing around the subject is what most people will do. the fact of the matter is we would all go to happy valley to watch the game if the opportunity presented itself.

The name"JoePa" is a term of endearment.
No longer is Paterno deserving of this.
In fact, I now find it quite creepy.

I wasn't dancing, I was sitting on my arse as I typed.
Your last cynical sentence is most likely correct however.

Do not speak for me. Not only would I not go to the game, I would lobby to have it cancelled. Same thing if it were to be in Memphis.
You that would happily go, need to avail yourselves of true introspection.

Orly??
Quote:Penn State Has Record Donations During Sandusky Scandal.
During one of the most difficult and scandal scarred years on record for Penn State University, donations poured into the school from a record number of donors.
The Nittany Lions raised more than $208 million during the 2011-2012 school year, even as former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was charged and convicted with molesting children on campus property
Wow, that actually surprises me. I still think they are on Death Row, regardless of who the executioner is.
As previously mentioned, the NCAA will take a lot of heat from the public if they give anything less than the Death Penalty. The NCAA has made a lot of controversial decisions, but I don't think they would be so foolish as to do absolutely nothing about this.

Any hypothetical talks between the NCAA and Penn State will most likely end with the following statement: "See you in court."
