Minor Sport Facilities around the A-Sun
A bunch of us have posted (good and bad) about ETSU's emphasis on minor sport facilities. I thought it might be interesting to look at some of the other minor sport facilities around the A-Sun to see how we measure-up.

UNF Outdoor Track & Field:
Seats around 9,000 and hosts NCAA D-1 Regional events.

Kennesaw State Soccer:
Hosted the NCAA Women's National Championship game.

Stetson Baseball:
Seats around 3,000.

FGCU Softball:
Covered seating is probably a necessity in the hot Florida sun.

Lipscomb Tennis:
Nothing special here except for a brilliant use of space. Their courts are located on top of a parking garage.

Those top two look like football stadiums waiting on teams...

Of course one is, Kennesaw. And, they'll soon be the 23rd school to depart the ASun.

If the Jags don't leave for LA, it wouldn't shock me at all to see UNF start a program up.

Obviously, they did not name their tennis coach as athletic director.

Yep, the tennis coach is still the athletic director, and the Stanton-Mullins athletic model is still in place. Six months into the Noland administration and the status quo appears to be firmly in place.

Does this mean that ETSU could not host a conference tournament or be the site for any kind of tournament in its new facility?

So when they finally gei done with all the "Phasest will be time to come back and start renovating the stuff done in phase 1. lol looks like this stadium is never going to be "done".

Now I see why Johnson City had no interest in getting involved with ETSU in buidling a staduim to share with the Cardinals, they can't wait "years" on a clubhouse etc. Also a reason if I were JC not to get involved with ETSU in building an arena.

Also with it being a shared stadium ETSU might have had more trouble getting donors to help, the free site prep (500,000+) free bricks etc. Probably cost ETSU more to go in with JC then building their own stadium on a smaller scale. Unless they got one guy with really deep pockets like Tusculum/Greeneville Astros did.

I'm not sure what the objection is to planned phases. I don't see this as a negative. That means continued improvements are are planned. Hmmm, this sounds like thinking ahead. Sometimes they do, ya know. If continued improvements weren't planned, we'd complain about that instead. <nsert pertinent Charlie Brown quote here>

But why in the hell wouldit take "years" to build a college baseball stadium? makes no sense. You kind of need all those things when you open it... not scattered over years. This isn't yankee stadium.

And, does $4.2 million sound like a good deal for this result?

If that includes the free site work and bricks then it sounds like a great deal, if it doesn't factor in the freebies, not so much.

Well, the race is on! The original Yankee Stadium (the one that closed in 2008) took just under 1 year to build: beginning construction on May 5, 1922 with the first game being played on April 18, 1923. They began construction on the new Yankee Stadium August 2006 with the first game being played on April 3, 2009 . . . about 2 1/2 years. Construction for ETSU's stadium began in the Spring of 2010 (2 1/4 years . . . and counting).

Yep. It ain't gonna happen. The tournament will be at Stetson, whose stadium seats around 3,000. ETSU's 400 seats would be laughable in comparison to any decent-sized stadium. Let's compare a few:

ETSU Baseball fan capacity = 400

ETSU Softball fan capacity = 500+
Kennesaw Softball fan capacity = 1,200
USC Upstate Softball fan capacity = 500

Think ETSU baseball is getting the shaft?
