Orange Bowl Future
It will be interesting what happens to ths bowl going forward. Already it was suffering because of attendance and tv rating.
You look at the last six years and the ACC champ has delivered
2011 Clemson #15 lost game
2010 Virginia Tech #13 lost game
2009 Georga Tech #9 lost game
2008 Virginia Tech #3 won game
2007 Wake Forest #14 lost game
Under the playoffs they would have lost VT in 2008 and replaced them with Boston College #14

Orange Bowl would be one of those worthless bowls no one will be watching. It will put one crappy team against another. Congrats ESPN and ACC! ESPN was celebrating when ACC signed this deal (Big surprise there LOL). They did not mention ACC's 2-13 BCS bowl record once.
I hope Orange Bowl's rating continue to plummet. It would be poetic justice.

I think everything will turn out great for the OB, the ACC and for CFB in general at the end of the day. Here's hoping the BE ends up with a bowl worthy of the conference for the champion. Any news on that front yet?

ACC had some duds there, but BE was also partner is some.
Orange in playoff makes it relevant till 2026.
Perfect fit for BE eastern teams.

These things go in cycles. The Orange Bowl might do great with Miami and FSU over the next few years.

RE: Orange Bowl Future
The OB will be fine IF FSU and/or Miame get good again....which is what the OB is hoping for. They could give a rat's @#$ about PItt, Cuse, UNC, Duke, Wake, etc.
The OB is hedging the bet that FSU and/or Miami turn it on and win the conference most years (they will take Clemson or Gtech as secondary teams if the must and hope like heck PItt, Cuse, Wake, Duke, UNC, NCST, etc Don't win the conference much, if ever).
If FSU/Miami can't get back to national relevancy, the OB is hosed....teams like BC, Pitt, UNC just aren't going to deliver fans or tv ratings. It's that simple folks.

RE: Orange Bowl Future
For the sake of attendance, the Orange Bowl needs to have a Florida team or a school no further away than Clemson or Georgia Tech often. That is why they would be wise to affiliate with the Big East (with USF and UCF).

I think the list is missing a game. VT went to back-to-back OBs. Lost to Kansas in the 1st (I think that's the #3 ranking). Beat Cincy when they were #19.

Heres the thing that has me a bit concerned. Assumming a Big East champ that is passed over by he BCS bowl selection committee--right now the Big East #1 Bowl would be a matchup between the Big East chmp and the ACC #3--who would most likley be unranked most years. Thats pretty weak. Hopefullly the Holliday/Cap One combo will work out for us so that they can function as good rewards for any BE champ that finishes just out of the top 10.

No news Miko. But, I have been reading some "well-informed blurbs" that suggest we'll be in good shape. Much of what has been posted by the Coogs site has been confirmed by others. I'll take that as optimism, although not a "done deal" by any means.

Fixed the list-
also- in 2007 season- even though their rating was #3, it's very possible, if not likely, that Virginia Tech doesn't make the playoff. 48-7 thumping to VT was bad, and Oklahoma just had murdered the #1 team in the country(missouri). It'd be between VT and USC for the final spot, and with all the factors, USC probably gets the spot.

RE: Orange Bowl Future
Notre Dame is going to be the other contract to the OB with the ACC, right? Or is the ACC working to team with ND to add more value to their end of the OB contract?

I don't see how ACC team's losing affects the Orange Bowl itself.

I don't think the loss would hurt the Orange Bowl by itself, but it's the cumulative effect year after year after year of losing. The fact that the ACC is 2-13 in BCS games- that's not good. That is what hurts the Orange Bowl.

I guess that would be if you have 8-4 team or teams playing in it as opposed to the OB deciding to go 100% at large and selecting 11-2, 12-1, 12-0 type teams. The Rose is a traditional BiG vs Pac game, SEC - Big 12 champions bowl in Texas makes sense (you pretty know what your are
getting, top 10 teams).
