Actually, to the contrary. If JSU beat Troy it would be embarrassing to Troy, but it's not like we're beating a team from the SEC. No disrespect to the SB, but even you guys have said the conference is like a mid-major. It's a good conference, and it's one JSU would probably gladly join if ever invited. BUT... JSU gains nothing by playing Troy. There's no money in it for us.
As for playing you on a level playing field...we'd compete just like we used to in the past.
We are trying to build the program for the future. That's why you won't see a JSU/Troy game in the near future. We gain nothing by beating you, and you know why? The only people that would hear about it would have to watch the Dothan, Montgomery, or Birmingham news. When we beat Ole Miss, it was all over ESPN, and the year before that our game against FSU was all over ESPN. That same year, even though Ga Tech beat us 38-17, the Atlanta and Birmgham news gave us tons of props. We will play 3 games against non-conference teams... 1 will be either Chattanooga, Furman, or maybe someone else close by. Then we'll have 2 games against major conference teams...in 2013 we will play Auburn and another OOC game . In 2014, we will play Michigan State and UCF. Then LSU in 2015. See my actual point? It's not that we don't want to play Troy again, but beating you isn't nearly as big as beating one these guys. Plus, these games put us in the national spotlight, and this what we can sell to recruits.
When a recruit asks Blakeny if y'all play Auburn, he has to say "no, we can't seem to get them scheduled".... With us, we can say "yep, we're playing the big boys to get our program where we want it to be".... You guys did the exact same thing when you started your plan to move up...took a beating, but it paid off right?
