LSU lost running back Alley Broussard during its first fall scrimmage Saturday.

Broussard injured his right knee during the three-hour workout at Tiger Stadium and is out for the season. Broussard, a preseason second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection going into 2005, rushed for a team-best 867 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2004. He set the LSU single-game record with 250 yards rushing last year against Ole Miss.

"I feel really bad for Alley," LSU coach Les Miles said. "He worked so hard this summer and put himself in a position to have a great fall."

Miles said he saw room for improvement after Saturday's scrimmage.

"We got in the stadium for 10 to 15 live snaps per team and had some good work," coach Les Miles said. "For the first scrimmage we were not overly sharp, but it was just the first scrimmage. It was kind of what I was expecting."

He did have some praise for placekickers Chris Jackson, Ryan Gaudet and Colt David and punters Patrick Fisher and Brady Dalfrey.

"We seemed to be improved in the kicking game," Miles said. "We were pretty sharp on our field goals. I enjoyed our punts and our kickoffs. Those were the phases we looked at today, and all three looked pretty good."

The Tigers have a light practice Sunday, followed by Media Day and Fan Day activities.
