I could see myself living there, buying season baseball tickets, taking the trolley ride to the park, then taking the trolly to Cinci St. for a few cold ones, then take it back to the downtown condo.

Doing the same for UTEP bball games in the winter.

I've said it before... This town is on the verge of doing some great things..... FINALLY!

As for all the naysayers, they need to move to Las Cruces, where nothing happens, and they are happy with that.

El Paso has new condos downtown? And what other projects are going down there? I've heard people say things are starting to happen downtown, but I haven't heard any specifics of what's in the pipeline...

Mills building is to look like this.

THis shopping center is what is builg built over the old Farah building

THis is where the baseball park would be

This is what is going on at Ft Bliss
[Image: fort-bliss-591x394.jpg]

A trolley system connecting the Union Plaza entertainment area, the Cinci entertainment area, utep, and the ball park.

450 acres set aside for Medical Center of the Americas, which will house UMC, TX Tech Health Sciences Ctr, Medical School, Pharmacy School, Dental School, Biomedical/pharmaceutical research entites.

2 more interstate exchanges (spaghetti bowls).

And so on....
The list goes on and on.

The movers and shakers in El Paso and UTEP need to get to work to have UTEP take over the medical school from TT. That's just not right. I know it's good for El Paso either way but much better for UTEP if it's theirs. Damn Texas politicians.

Yep...in the sixties Gov. Preston Smith being from Lubbock had ALL to do with TT getting the med. school in the region. I guess it all comes from the same tax base but Texas politics is what it is. UTEP does have the new Health Sciences bldg. housing nursing (including a nurse practioner program) and a PT and OT program.

Probably nine out of ten people posting were against the stadium, calling it a waste of money, calling El Paso backwards, etc. I can't believe how short-sighted some people are, and that they couldn't get it through their skulls that this project is vital to bringing life back to downtown, and revitalizing El Paso itself...

We are experiencing the EXACT same thing here in Birmingham as well. Downtown has numerous projects under way to bring life back to the city center and one of them is our minor league baseball team relocating from a suburb to a new downtown stadium.

All the suburbanites shout it down because they all know it's a fact that 10 in 5 people get shot, robbed, and raped all at the same time if you come downtown 03-banghead

I hope this gets voted through. As far as those comments on the times site, those are the same people that complain anytime El Paso decides to do something, they are to El Paso as Fitbuddy is to UTEP, they'll always find something to complain about.

I really hope UTEP gets a baseball team, which leads to my next point, I know many of you have daughters, but I don't think title IX is fair, they should come up with a formula that more accurately portrays the percentages of males and females who play sports at the youth level and apply those percentages to title IX

I think simply removing football from the equation is a fair compromise. Everything can be equal.

That would put football (read: $$$) above equality, and it's a slippery slope.

Yep can't do that, the issue is money. But if the possibility ever comes, at least we won't have to build a stadium.

I wouldn't mind moving to Fosters new building downtown but I don't think my wife is willing. I guess I'll have to move there by myself. J/k of course, I need someone to nagged me. 03-wink At least in a condo you don't have to do gardening.

Question? Would you guys rather have home plate with a view towards the mountains, or a view towards downtown?

The way the model showed the stadium, you would have a view of both the mountains and downtown.

Win Win

you're right, right field would have a view of the north side of down town, while center and left would be towards the mountain.

According to the baseball architect who spoke at the city council meeting last Tuesday (who has been in the business for over 30 years), the third base line must be north and south. That is based on all kinds of factors such as where sun sets, etc. So as you can see from the drawing, the mountains will be over left center field with downtown right center field.

makes sense, was the architect local?

RE: UTEP Baseball?
I want the shade, which means I will be facing the mountains.

Just thought of something. Both major sports complexes would have a view of the mountains... Very nice. Could become (if it hasn't already) the staple of El Paso sports venues.

I just keep getting more and more hy"ped about this. I am advocating all of my coworkers to vote for it. Not one has voiced opposition. Those bitching on the El Paso Times site, and city council are those with the hotel association, and the ever-bitter wind-bags that have nothing better to do.... As we said in the military "Lead. Follow. or ...Get our of the F'n Way".

I think our fist promotion should be... "free chicken with purchase of a ticket"... Then we turn around and donate our chickens to UTEP and they have a promo of "free ticket with purchase of chicken"

city council approved the stadium to be voted on in the november bond election. Technically, I don't think they had to because it was a quality of life issue, but IDK anything when it comes to politics

I know the city has committed to the ballpark (whether thru hotel tax, or otherwise).

Sorry, I grouped them together, but I meant the quality of life bond which included a sports areana. Has that been scrapped?
