ODU could see an "influx" of FBS transfers in 2012 from guys homesick or buried on the depth charts of programs like UVA and VT. Transfers who wait until 2013 would have to sit out a year as ODU goes to 85 scholarships and transitions to FBS.

So far I've heard of two such transfers:

1. Caleb Taylor, LB from UVA - (a source confirmed Taylor is coming to ODU and said he had a good spring at UVA, but was homesick)

2. Nick Drew, LB from VT - (also confirmed by a source who said Drew played a lot on VT's special teams but was buried on the depth chart)


Anyone hear of any other FBS transfers?

Nick Drew was one of VT highest rated recruits in 2010 (4-Star):

Jason Rexroad, OL, 6-3, 285, is here and should be on the 2-Deep Depth Chart. He transferred in from MTSU, where he was slated to start, he's very strong and athletic.

I hadn't heard of the Nick Drew transfer yet. If true he is a big pickup on the defensive side.

Rexroad is up to 6'5" 296lbs now and with his athleticism, strength, quickness, football IQ and a real mean streak on the field.... being on the 2 deep won't be a problem....won't be a bit surprised to see him starting at rt guard on Sept 1st!

It's DEW, not DREW

We had defensive end Rahsaan Moore from Maryland join in January but leave by the start of this month.

He actually decided he was leaving in January as well.

We still managed to get 2 more commits from Wise HS since, so it's all good!

It doesn't really count if they are on your team because they couldn't cut the mustard at another school.

He never even had a chance as he was only an underclassmen at UVA.

He could come to ODU and be an absolute stud. No need to run a kid transferring to ODU down simply because he wasn't tearing it up at UVA as an underclassmen.

Hopefully these young men find what they are looking for in the classroom as well as on the field. It will be a pleasure watching them help ODU reach its football potential. By the way because these players transfer does not diminish what they accomplished in high school which is what the recruiting stars are based on.

didn't we sort of have a 4-star guy? that kid from WVU that ultimately got released/cut/quit? I guess it doesn't count...also, I talked to my VT buddies and they were surprised to hear about Dew. said he just got buried on the depth chart and I guess saw the writing on the wall during the spring game. that being said he hasn't heard that he's def transferring yet. I guess we'll find out soon...

Logan Heastie actually stayed at WVU and quit football. I've always wondered why because he's a strange case to have turned down a full scholarship and still attend school. Their coach even left the door open for him to reconsider joining the team, if he desired. The guy just didn't want to.

Dew was the #63 recruit in the nation per ESPN/Scout and the #6 safety, although he moved to LB at Tech.

Anyone have any more on him besides the opening post?

I heard from a contact that is pretty well plugged into the local HS football scene (he has a son that plays at FBS school in VA and another in HS that is being recruited). He has a friend that is also close with Dew. Based on what he is hearing, it is pretty much a done deal that Dew is coming to ODU.
