......... actually, I'm just having a little fun with all of the posters who have reported conference moves like this in the past. UConn isn't going anywhere, and ND probably isn't going anywhere either.

UConn adds so much in football and we all know that they're going to win the national championship in men's basketball next season

I don't have a personal agenda against Notre Dame and I don't like the fact they get so much preferential treatment. But Notre Dame brings a ton to the conference.

No idea what you're talking about. They have heavy clout in football. If they're willing to join the league for football, awesome, welcome aboard Irish! Otherwise, this is the large scale equivalent of Boise State olympic sports to the Big West.

Did you really just equivilate Notre Dame Olympic sports to Boise??? Well alrighty then.......01-wingedeagle

IF the Big 12 doesn't remove the ACC from the table then who knows what happens in the future. Perhaps ACC football returns and suddenly they have strong SOS's. Perhaps Big 12 football weakens as K State dips back down, Baylor returns to their usual, TCU never pans out and the constant trips wear out WVU teams. That leaves what...three consistent teams in the Big 12? Maybe OSU and WVU alternate as the third? Sounds a lot like the current ACC.

It is a battle and it isn't one which you can only look at the present day circumstances. The possibility for a rise of the ACC and a fall in the Big 12 does exist.

They're firmly entrenched until the GOR is up and the LHN fails. Then they are a collection of the smallest markets in college football with no top tier powers. WVU will be their bread and butter school then.

^^This^^ is precisely correct. ND to B12, w/out FB, greatly diminishes both a) the perceived significance of the ACC (reinforces ACC status below the Big 4), & b) the actual TV contract $$ value of the BE, all while ND negotiates a follow on FB deal w/ NBC. Win, win for ND & B12, lose, lose for ACC & BE, that is why the ACC may very well need to make this invite, sans FB, ASAP.

On a related note, there is NO Big12 expansion meeting this weekend, not happening. You can blast or ban me if I'm wrong, & I won't be...just saying

So get back with me in 13 yrs when the GOR is up. For now, the ACC can only sniff the jock strap of the Big 12.

Oooo 2.7 million dollars. Big f**king difference. The grant of rights is currently only 5 years with 4 years remaining. I'll believe Tex and Okl are going to give up their rights for 13 years when I see it happen. Not before.

If this is true, and it's all sports except football, then it looks like Notre Dame used the XII as leverage.

If this is true then I hope they consider the same deal that was rumored in 2003 where ND joins full-time once the NBC deal runs out(2015). I think the ACC could live being a hybrid conference for a couple of years especially for a larger TV contract.

ND only has couple of true yearly rivalries(USC, Navy & Purdue) the rest are all stuff with breaks or just started within the last 30 years or so. I don't too much trouble with this one since they can renew their rivalry with GT in the ACC.

I agree. I also think ND will not join for FB, so it's a stalemate.

Guess we'll know in a few hours what comes out of this "emergency meeting," that hasn't been reported in the mainstream media, lol.

One thing is for sure. ND holds all the cards in this. They don't need the money or the status that motivates everyone else. ND is going to remain independent in FB and if either the B12 or ACC want them as conference mates...it will not be for FB.

I would agree (no meeting). I believe the Pitt/SU vote was done by conference call.

Folks what is the real draw to Notre Dame? Personally, they are touted as Americas College Team but from my point they are not. They have not been competitive or a power for over 20 years. I could care less about their history. Everyone has ebbs and flows but I just don't see why the difference.

(06-22-2012 09:43 PM)He1nousOne Wrote:  As far as Navy vs Rutgers vs Cinci I just cant see how Navy and Cinci match up to Rutgers. I know Cinci has the basketball but this is about Notre Dame and they actually like to play Rutgers. Also Rutgers closes yet another door on the Big Ten (not happy about that but it's the truth). Navy may be a big rival of ND in football but that can remain even with ND in the ACC. Notre Dame will never drop that rivalry.

They do? In the 125 years that both schools have been playing football, they've played each other a grand total of 4 times, with the last game being a decade ago. If Notre Dame were to become a full member of the ACC (which I don't think is going to happen), they would almost certainly insist on #16 being one of their main rivals. They almost have to. With the ACC committed to a 9-game conference schedule, that doesn't leave many spots for Notre Dame to schedule traditional/recent rivals like USC, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Navy, and Stanford. Adding Navy to a conference that already contains rivals Pitt, Boston College, and Georgia Tech eases that problem considerably.

What other sports does Navy have besides football? I know they must have other sports but just how many and how many sports does the ACC have that Navy wouldn't be able to compete in?

Let me remind that Rutgers is one of the oldest schools in the country and was set to be part of the Ivy league but it began taking funds from the State of New Jersey and that disqualified it. It is a great school that fits the academic standards of the ACC in every way.

I highly doubt that Notre Dame would mind playing a round robin schedule with the Big Ten teams on that rivalry list of yours. The fact that Notre Dame has chosen to play Rutgers in the past means they do like to play them. That puts them much higher on the list than most of the schools across the country.

This super secret meeting is interesting. No major media has heard of it, only some insider from WV. I have come to the conclusion that most mountaineers hear voices.
