ND likely to move its Olympic Sports into the Big 12
Two sources in the Big 12 said Wednesday the possibility of Notre Dame moving its Olympic sports out of the Big East and into the Big 12 is becoming more and more likely.
Speculation is growing among those sources that an announcement could come from South Bend before the end of the summer.
As part of such a move, Notre Dame, which has a contract with NBC to televise its home football games through the 2015 season, would agree to play up to six football games against Big 12 competition (but most likely three or so to start with), sources tell Orangebloods.com.

Old news. See ND AD Jack Swarbrick comments in the Chicago Tribune.

Il'l be honest and say that I have mixed emotions on this. Would love to have Notre Dame all sports but I am not sure the Irish would really ever want to commit all of their sports to a conference. Notre Dame is a hallowed name in football but let's be honest here, they are not what they once were and many people do not remember Notre Dame football from the old days. I don't blame them for loving their independence but I doubt if it can last for that much longer. I think it is time for Notre Dame to step into this century and become relevant again.

I don't have mixed emotions. ND is Texas' idea, not mine. I don't want the Irish here. If the Big XII expands, let it be with schools that will bring good football teams into the conference...
The Irish won't do that. So who needs 'em?

I also think that it's unwieldy at best to have a single non-all-sports school in the conference. So that either means the Big 12 would finally land BYU as well in a similar agreement with agreement (all sports but football, with a limited football scheduling alliance), or else the speculation about UT football independence would finally come to fruition. While I can understand the suspicions about that option, I'm not sure I see it ever actually happening.
I don't think we're going to see ND in the Big 12. If they're eager for access to Texas they can always just go ahead and schedule UT as a UT non-con game. I'm no expert on ND, but I agree with the opinions of others that their interests lie more in the East than the Midwest.

The limited Big XII schedule would be a big perk for BYU. They aren't finding it as easy to get a top notch schedule, like ND...

Neither ND nor BYU are going to want to play many (or for that matter, any, if they really have their choice) games against the likes of KU or ISU. They're going to want to get the big matchups with UT and OU, with some of the other stronger teams being acceptable as part of a rotation. But while those schools are less powerful, you still want their votes for expansion. By getting both ND and BYU, there's the potential to increase the exposure for all schools, without taking up too much of either of those two teams' individual schedules.
There's also the question of who gets broadcast rights to those games - would it be the Big 12, those individual schools (via LHN and BYUTV), or perhaps a mixture of the two? If you could get each school to commit to 4 total games against the Big 12, and they'd be split evenly between the two distribution methods, there could be some benefit to all sides.
Having said that, I still don't think any of this will happen.

I would rather see Notre Dame leave the Big East. They take up space for bowl games and don't participate in the football league.

Would Texas and ND be able to play in the same sandbox together?
Just say no to ND.

Agree Tigeer!
They need to stay where they are in the Big East.

As an ND fan, this is what I want.
I personally have no interest in ND joining the Big 12, full or partial.
I'd rather ND remain a football independent and play its other sports in the Midwest and Northeast.
So, we all agree here! :)

East or Midwest is where ND belongs, WVU belongs in the East or Mid-Atlantic as well but we know how that turned out. However, they are in a good home now. Hopefully, the Mounties can make the ACC and SEC pay someday.

WVU already made the ACC pay, or did you miss the Orange Bowl?

Notre Dame, Depaul and Marquette might join the Horizon League that has several schools around Chicago.
