Alabama junior wide receiver and return specialist Tyrone Prothro has been named this week’s Southeastern Conference special teams player of the week.

Prothro tallied 279 all-purpose yards in Alabama’s 30-21 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. His yardage ranks sixth all-time in UA history for all-purpose yards in a game. He got the game started recording a 52-yard reception on the first play from scrimmage and finished with a career high 134 receiving yards. He added 97 yards in kickoff returns, including a 66-yard return, 34 punt return yards and 14 rushing yards.

Prothro’s acrobatic catch towards the end of the first half set up a one-yard touchdown giving Alabama momentum heading into halftime. His catch is one of four plays this weekend in the running for the Pontiac Game Changing Play.

The award is the first of the season for the Crimson Tide and the second ever for Prothro. He was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week the week of October 9 in 2004.
