Anyway, he said look for the SBC to add Ga. Southern and SF Austin.
SF Austin seems like a weird choice, so I'm skeptical, but like I said, he has been a solid provider of info in the past.
He could very well be wrong, but just thought I'd drop this off over here.
Austin is especially strange right in UT's back yard. I would think Lamar would make more sense for the SBC and has more of a name.
Um....Stephen F. Austsin is nowhere near Austin. Texas State is close by to Austin. SFA is in Nacogdoches, not far from the Louisiana border.
Yup, SFA is also in a very sparsely populated area of East Texas, seriously I doubt there is more than 50-75,000 people within a 50 mile radius of Nacogdoches. The Lumberjacks don't have the fan base or resources to make the move anytime soon. Sam Houston State, despite reaching the FCS finals last year, is pretty much in the same boat. The only other Texas team that has even a slim chance of going FBS is Lamar.

Ah, I was wondering about that.
He was probably just pulling our leg over there then. Sarcasm is hard to pick up online (although Ga. Southern seems like a legit possibility, and he's not typically a jokester type).

That wouldn't have made sense to have a second state university in Austin anyway.

The next step should be to extend invitations to App State and Ga. Southern before the next round of defections in a few weeks. It would be a shame to lose App State to CUSA and be forced to take someone like Liberty.

You don't have to worry about App to C-USA. Any dreams of that happening died when Charlotte got invite. Sad to say, because I did want them over Charlotte, but ECU tried and couldn't get any support for adding them.

I agree but I would like to secure a better TV contract first. We need to remove the temptation to jump on the MWC, CUSA band wagon.

Believe me very few are concerned about App State to CUSA. If we were they would be in the Sun Belt.

Doubt you will ever see App State in the Sun Belt or C-USA like I said previously.

It's hard for me to actually gauge what the average App fan feels about potentially moving up. A lot of the ones who post on these boards desperately want up, but then many I have talked to in person don't seem to be as interested in it. I personally wouldn't want ECU to move up right now if we were in App's position. What's the ceiling App could reach if they moved up? Marshall? USM? ECU? All solid programs in small markets but essentially screwed over and locked out.

I have a hard time believing that moving up makes financial sense unless its in an 18 team CUSA. Beyond adding scholarships, you are looking at more travel. Higher cost for head coaches and assistant coaches, hiring an added assistant in football, likely adding at least one women's sport and with that travel costs, equipment costs, a facility and coaches. Recruiting budget would have to go up as well. Probably have to add one and realistically two more academic support people.
Playing in FBS ain't cheap.
