Nice size and a nice list of offers. CU is making a statement that they're hear to stay.

What are they staying to hear? :-)

Looks like another nice pick-up but I will wait to see what they can actually do. Remember, they have been recruited by a coach who's recruiting assessment was that his own son was unable to play at the BcS level of basketball and who needed and would have taken a redshirt year except for injuries making it necessary to get him in the line-up.

Oops. I hate it when I do that.

CU has put together a nice recruiting class on paper. I'm impressed with what they've been able to do. And paper is all we have to go on until they show up and play. But when you see an offer list like the one for Hanson, it's a pretty decent bet that he'll be a pretty decent player as well.

Does UNI have any commits for '13 yet? I may have to see what I can find when I get a little more time.

And welcome aboard. It's nice to have another Valley fan join and get another teams perspective.

UNI has five recruits committed for '13

Jeremy Morgan 6'6" SF from Iowa City: projected as either the #1 or #2 player in the state this year
Ted Friedman 6'9" PF/C from Ankeny, Iowa: top-5 player in the state
Robert Knar 6'1" SG from Mundelein, Illinois: needs 23 points to become schools all-time leading scorer-school has produced Ryan Sawvell of Evansville and Ben Brust of Wisconsin in the last few years
Bennett Koch 6'9" PF Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin: Perhaps you have heard of the family name? Youngest brother has been taller than either Adam or Ben every year at the same age, just turned 17 and has a 7'1" wingspan so might project more as an inside player if he adds a few more inches
Klinton Carlson 6'7" SF/PF Waverly, Iowa: Top 10 talent in Iowa, athletic wing/post combo, sounds like he may be a 4 for 5 player as we only have 4 schollys

Solid class and easy to see how each player fits into Jake's style excpet maybe Morgan who brings more size and athleticism to the 3 guard spot than we have seen previously. Won't know how any of them look for sure until they get thrown up against Division I competition. I do like how Jake sticks to recruiting to his system/style, though.

RE: Recruiting 2013
It definitely works for him. I think we'll start seeing more teams look for some taller and athletic wings. I know that CU and WSU are bringing in guys 6'6" to 6'8" that can play there. Hopefully someone like Jake doesn't go too far out of his system to try and do it and screw it all up. I could see that happening a few places, but not UNI. I'm sure he feels that Morgan still fits in with what he wants to do, but is just taller than guys there in the past.

Looks like some solid talent with some good size which is always nice. The top schools in this conference can't just be looking to compete within the Valley, but need to be able to matchup nationally.

Deontae Hawkins, I really wanted him to be a Jay as I'm convinced he was a top talent. Per Facebook, he "left for college" on the 11th, but where I don't know. He did become "friends" with several WSU students in the last couple of days. Might be in Wichita.

Yeah, we've been trying to figure that out as well. Last thing 3G has said about it is that Henry Uwadiae was going to a JUCO in Iowa (I think) and that they were still working with Teddy and his family. Sounds like they're trying to get him in as a partial qualifier or whatever they want to call it now. Similar to the situation at Kansas last year. But there's been no news one way or the other for awhile. Classes start on Monday. Would hope to know something by then, but I won't be surprised if we don't.

Appears that Bradley just got a verbal from Stefan Zecevic, a 6'5" Serbian forward preping in Maine. Link

RE: Recruiting 2013
I'm excited about Bowles. He and FVV could make a heck of a tandem over their three years together. I also think we missed the announcement of Big Shaq Morris committing to WSU. 6'8" 260 C from Edmond, OK. Those two join Earl Watson and Rian Holland who've been mentioned previously in the 4 man Shocker class of '13.

RE: Recruiting 2013
Incoming UNI Freshman Morgan named Male High School Athlete of the Year by the Des Moines Register, now gets to concentrate full-time on basketball. 6'6" and high-jumped that as a junior.

RE: Recruiting 2013
I'm interested to see Morgan with UNI. He seems to be a much different type of player than UNI usually gets. I hope he works out and we see a few more like him in Frostbite Falls in the future.

RE: Recruiting 2013
I wrote a little report comparing recruiting services ratings and regular season success. While I didn't find much correlation in the MVC, I did in the old Big East.

http://wheatshockers.com/showthread.php?tid=468

Feel free to discuss or copy the report over here I don't mind.
