OT - Hawaii Bowl
First and foremost, there are no rumors about this. I just wanted to see where the board stood on this.
-- Would you want the SBC to sign an agreement with the Hawaii Bowl?
---- Would you attend if your team was invited?
Pros -
We get another Bowl game
It will be the only game on TV that night
Good weather
Spend some time on the islands
Cons -
It's on Christmas eve
Travel (time and costs)

Just schedule UH and you'll have the extra game and the trip. USA vs. Hawaii Dec. 1st.

RE: OT - Hawaii Bowl
its a money loser. Perhaps if it was against a team from the Pac 12, I'd feel different. The Belt needs at least one more bowl tie in. But...the Hawai'i and Humanitarian Bowls are last on my list.

That bowl is a white elephant! Every talks like its great fun till you have to buy plane tickets on short notice and for many families drop decades of Christmas traditions. The bowl itself hangs by a thread as have Hawaii play host of nearly mandatory for the bowl to exist. I don't have the link anymore, but I remember the Hawaii Bowl committee admitting if they must have Hawaii play host 3 years out of every 5 or they fold.

RE: OT - Hawaii Bowl
I don't think the Hawaii Bowl wants to partner with the Sun Belt. C-USA probably wants to keep this bowl, but the Pac is probably looking at it too. With more teams, they will need more bowl ties. I couldn't see Belt teams traveling well for this bowl either. The Sun Belt need to find regional bowl ties. The problem is there just aren't any out there. If C-USA loses the Hawaii Bowl to the Pac12, and can't find another qulaity bowl to replace it with, look for them them to move after the Go Daddy Bowl. The Belt may become a one bowl conference again.

I dont think there will be any interest from either side. The one thing the SBC has on bowls right now is the attendance that UL and ASU brought to their games last year.
We need to be focusing on how our current institutions will travel very well to bowl games, and stay within our geographic foot print.

No thanks....I LOVE hawaii and all but this is just to far out...It normally costs 1000 bucks for a flight there and back from Atlanta. There would be hardly any students make that trip let alone fans.....I Would be shocked to see 2k Troy fans there. Its a money loser.

Sun Belt isn't going to lose any bowls to CUSA, especially not GoDaddy.com Bowl.

This....If anything It could be the other way around.... We have been sending 3 teams to bowls the last 3 years. also this past year we could have sent 4 to the off season if we could have. CUSA is weaker after this shake up. They may lose TV contracts and such.

I would say now is as appropriate a time as any. I have to admit, this happened sooner than even I expected.

Too soon.
i asked permission.....from a moderator.
he gave me the go-ahead.
i've been dying to use it. i've passed up several opportunities. i saw no reason to deny myself the pleasure of it.
p.s. well played on the 'too soon' even if not 100% applicable here.

RE: OT - Hawaii Bowl
Well played Dahbeed.
I saw a thread on the Conference Realignment board discussing the status of the Hawaii bowl, and why it's not a better bowl. One of the posters speculated that CUSA could cut ties with them because it costs a considerable amount, fans rarely travel, and there are other games that are closer. I just wondered if we would even want it, if offered.

CUSA lost three teams that regularly go to bowls (UH, SMU, UCF) plus a trash fire of a program (Memphis) and replaced them with six teams that have exactly 4 bowl berths in the last 6 years. Heck, three of your newbies aren't even eligible for a bowl game next year (and one of them wont be for many years). While some of the of the existing teams will have better records against weaker competition (and yes, dropping UCF, Houston, and SMU from their schedules will cause some of the teams that almost never get to bowls to become eligible), I'm not seeing CUSA filling more than their 6 bowl bids in the future. Put Marshall, USM, Tulsa, and ECU (although not last year) into 4 slots and then....are you saying that from the remaining teams....3 are going to be bowl eligible consistently? Not seeing it.
The Go Daddy Bowl is run by people in Mobile. They play in USA's home stadium. The Sun Belt and the Go Daddy bowl are going to be together for a long time. Perhaps you can go after the MAC's slot in that bowl, but you already have a bowl tie in with us in New Orleans. And the MAC fans, for whatever reason, actually travel pretty well.
The Sun Belt is underbowled. We had 4 bowl eligible teams last year. We'll probably have more than our 2 autos this year as well.

i still don't believe the hawaii bowl is a good idea.
