RE: What is the most significant Sun Belt win over a BCS team?
Not a win, but a heartbreaking loss.

North Texas 15 Arkansas 17 (1968).

NT QB muffed a handoff (recovered by Arkansas) inside the Arkansas 10 on first down late in the 4th quarter.

Arkansas finished the season with a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, a 10-1 record and #6 ranking. NT finished the season 8-2.

Dont talk to me about heart breaking losses.......In 2008 Troy was beating LSU 33-3 in the 3rd quarter only to LOSE by 3 at the end.....LSU was ranked in the top 10 and it was the year after they won the National championship....THATS HEARTBREAKING!!!!

I wasn't talking to you in particular, but I do remember that a Troy receiver committed a big error by retreated trying to find running room and cost Troy a first down.

The only reason I would reverse those is that ULM won at Tuscaloosa and Troy won in their own stadium

Bama still went to a bowl game that year (Independence Bowl) and won it. Even in a down year, beating the Tide in Bryant-Denny is tough.

Long before their Sun Belt days, ULM beat #20 Richmond in 1973 in Monroe. At the time the Spiders had the country's longest winning streak at 14 games.

When ULM beat Bama they were NOT good at all. even though they made a bowl, thats not hard to do when the SEC has 10 bowls to choose from. Not saying its not an impressive win at all, because it is. But I still say Troys win over a #17 Missouri is much more impressive. No other SBC team is beaten a top 25 team. Bama was not ranked. Missouri ended up not having a great year, But at the time its still a better win to have beaten a top 25 team. Plus our game was on live tv on ESPN as was Oklahoma State....I dont believe the ULM bama game was on tv.

Hands down, it has to be ULM over Alabama. Alabama is one of the most storied programs in the history of college football, and Nick Saban was coaching them that day. I think it was the biggest football win in the history of the Belt.

And at the will of the refs too, that rally was 50% LSU 50% Zebras. A ******* shame.

To me the ULM win over 'bama wins hands down. 'Bama was a bowl team that year and the Missouri team that Troy beat was highly over rated as they finished the season at 5-6.

Wow, so you're telling me Appalachian State's win over #5 Michigan (and maybe even their multiple wins over Wake Forest) trumps any Sun Belt school win?

I doubt seriously that anyone is telling you anything as this is a Belt team discussion.

And please tell me how many wins does App state have over D1 schools?

NO way does Wake Forest Trump any of those top 6 SBC wins...Maybe Maryland but thats it! Also App states win over #5 Michigan is a better win than anyone in the SBC has ever done as well as CUSA and MAC...Well done. But it does not mean your program is stronger than the top programs in the SBC.

You could also throw in there Troy beat Mississippi State in 2001....But Troy was in transition to the SBC at that time.

I'll chime in on this one, most sunbelt schools think football only while WKU fans think basketball first.

In basketball
WKU over #3 Louisville three years ago
WKU over #4 Kentucky at Kentucky 04
WKU over #14 drake in 08 NCAA tourney
WKU over #15 Illinois in 09 NCAA tourney
MTSU over Tennessee in 12 NIT
USA over Florida in 08 or 09. Breaks Floridas home winning streak

This is a few that popped in my head real fast.

I think Troy gets credit for having more quality wins over time and ULM gets credit for the top stunner with Alabama.

I would imagine quite a lot since they are a DI school and most all of their games are vs other DI schools

RE: What is the most significant Sun Belt win over a BCS team?
How did this turn into a thread about Appy State? As far as the Troy vs ULM wins, I would say they are about equal. Neither Bama or OSU turned out to be that great in either of those years. OSU was ranked but Bama is in the SEC. I call that even. Both good wins though. Both tied for first in my book. Also, a Wake Forrest win isn't as good as a Maryland win. Especially one in which Maryland went bowling.
