IRS 2013 Recruiting Board
I love looking through this:
http://insiderunnersports.com/pages/recruiting

Strong list of a recruiting class. I noticed that the DL positions seem the least with offers.

Anyone know what the various "deadlines" are for commits (e.g. signing day, etc. etc.)? Do Juco transfers have any deadlines? (I've never kept up with recruiting since UTSA never had a football team. So this is all new to me.)

One thing I've always wondered is if you have 10 OLs that are fantastic and are all sophomores, do you bother recruiting OLs for a year? Do you skip a year of recruiting OLs?

I'm in the same boat, so not sure how it normally works. But I'd think that you would rotate positions when recruiting so you don't lose everyone at the same time to graduation.

Juco Players can sign before high school players. While high school players have to wait until February (in 2013 it's February 6th), juco guys can transfer in midyear and sign letters of intent in December. For example, Demetrius Campbell, a juco DL we've offered, has indicated he may sign with a team in December or just wait until national signing day.

RE: IRS 2013 Recruiting Board
While you do wanna keep a balanced recruiting class, so that you don't lose a huge amount of seniors, recruiting never stops on any position. Typically, you only have a limited amount of scholarships to give out each year. So, if you know that half of your OL is going to graduate, you wanna focus on that some more. But you gotta remember, we can always offer a preferred walk on or a gray shirt if we really want someone. Plus, ideally, you would wanna redshirt all freshmen, to give them time to transition from high school to D1 and learn our playbook. That's how you would balance out a class, to lose an even 20 something every year.

Of course, we are in a difficult position right now as a startup, and we have a high number of sophomores that will be graduating at the same time.

Hopefully we will do a good job recruiting for the next few years to help soften the blow. You're right though, losing this sophomore class all at once could be a problem.

RE: IRS 2013 Recruiting Board
We just updated it this morning. Had to remove a few names that are now off the board, Brad North (Northwestern), Andrew Tercek (Boise State), Reggie Chevis (A&M) and we're working on four updates of four new reported offers.

DB Justin Chavez, DT Tanzel Smart, DT Justin Taimatuia and RB Jalen Rhodes

First off, thanks for following SlowRunner!
National Signing Day (NSD) for football will be Feb 6, 2013.

Juco's do have deadlines. If you are a mid year transfer also known as a December graduate, and enrolling at your school by January, you have from Dec 19, 2012 until January 15, 2013 to sign your Letter of Intent (LOI).

If you are a regular Juco transfer graduating in May of 2013, you then fall into the regular NSD deadlines for high school athletes, which again start on Feb 6, 2013 and deadline is April 1, 2013.

Hope that helps.

An update on RB Target Jalen Rhodes.

UTSA is neck and neck with a Big XII program for his services. Still looking for it's first commit, UTSA is going toe to toe with some pretty big programs. The move to C-USA has not paid off in the forum of a blue chip commit, but the type of talent the staff is targeting, definitely of a higher caliber.

And when do we get the first commit? Almost all D-1 schools have at least 1 commit. We have zilch. IMO we will get our first commit this week-end during our last camp. Thoughts?

I am also starting to worry about our recruiting class. It may be due to the fact that we are targeting higher caliber recruits, and they are reluctant to commit since we are young. Hopefully, we start seeing some dividends pretty soon, I know the staff has been working hard.

You hit it right on the head Yankee! The staff is targeting a higher caliber athlete, and despite our rapid ascend into C-USA, they're still trying to get a feel for who and what UTSA is.

We have heard a number of targeted recruits will be in attendance starting tomorrow. Could possibly happen with 1st commit!

UTSA will end up with a solid class, but it's hard to sit back and be patient. There's a lot of talent in SA this year that bigger schools have seemingly passed over. Once the Big XII, Big East, etc. schools finish the bulk of their recruiting it will open up the field for UTSA as athletes stop holding out hope for offers from larger profile programs.

Alright. I'm a little slow (hence the screen name). What's starting tomorrow with all the recruits? A camp?

The last 3 camps of the year that UTSA puts on for high school players. Saturday is the advanced camp which is only open to seniors. IMO we should be seeing our first commit on Saturday, hopefully.

We should see our first commit after camp, but then again, verbal commitments are about as useful as breasts on a nun. It's a crapshoot all the time. I only get semi-excited about commits. The real celebration begins when the ink has dried up.
