RE: 2012-13 Preliminary Basketball Schedule
Good find, 'inthecreek!

Those three non-D1 games jumped out at me first. Not crazy about those, but the rest of the non-conference schedule makes up for them. Looks good overall!

Looks like all the cross-division games in conference are on Saturdays.

RE: 2012-13 Preliminary Basketball Schedule
I know most on this board have a philosophical difference in non-conference scheduling than I do, but I completely understand why we see these DIII or lower tier (Houston Baptists of the world) DI games.

Games the Camels SHOULD win (Large favorite): 6 games - Averett, Northwestern State, Newberry, Rio Grande, NCA&T, Northern Arizona/Jax St.

Games the Camels CAN win (But also very easily lose or 50/50 games): 4 games - Northwestern State, Appy St., UNC Wilmington, Seattle

Games the Camels SHOULDN'T win but can (Close to a double digit dog): 4 games - Iowa State, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, ECU (Yes, ECU...since its in Greenville)

Personally, I think its an decent schedule, but would like to see one of those six moved to a 50/50 game. However, with CU's record at home its so tough to get home games and I know home games are important to the administration since building the new place.

Overall though I agree with OC. Decent schedule with challenges along the way. The non-conference schedule is significantly more difficult than what the 19 win team faced a few years back.

I will say this I love the 16 game conference schedule of the Big South over the 20 game A-Sun schedule (BRUTAL!).

RE: 2012-13 Preliminary Basketball Schedule
I've heard comments that other Big South schools were playing 3+ non-D1s and getting 20 wins while we wound up with 17...why not schedule to get our 20? (Of course, we could of had 20 wins last year if the team decided to play to win during the last portion of the season.)

Best chance for a full house in Pope this year might be UNCW on a Saturday afternoon.

The Camels will travel west of the Mississippi on three occasions. That Seattle game has to be the farthest the CU men have ever played away from the Creek. (The women did play in Hawaii a few years ago.)

Here are the non-conference opponents with last year's Sagarin rankings....

21 Gonzaga
26 Cincinnati
27 Iowa State
141 East Carolina
220 Jacksonville State
(226 Campbell)
229 Seattle
230 UNC Wilmington
254 Appalachian State
296 N.C. A&T
335 Northern Arizona

Definitely falls into the scheduling with "thirds" philosophy (1/3 shouldn't win, 1/3 can win, 1/3 should win).

RE: 2012-13 Preliminary Basketball Schedule
I am disappointed to not see a scheduled game with NC State this year. Last years game was great and I wish a game with NC State would be a yearly event.

Another catch 22 is that NC State scheduled that game for a "guaranteed" win (They only schedule those type of games when they play in Reynolds...look at the history of that game). Campbell made it to close and played State way to tough for it to be such an easy schedule the next time around. If CU had lost by 30, I guarantee CU would have been asked back.

State will definitely think twice before scheduling that game this year or any year in the near future. I know prior to last year Lowe didn't want to play the game at all.

RE: 2012-13 Preliminary Basketball Schedule
There is room for one more game in the schedule, so don't be shocked to see one added. Obviously, it would have to be a Division I game (since three non-D1 are scheduled already).

RE: 2012-13 Preliminary Basketball Schedule
I only see two dates that could even really hold a game. 1. Between Nov. 29-Dec. 12 (But remember finals is in there too) and 2. Dec. 12-19 (But that includes a two day leave probably for Spokane)

I'm pretty certain you will see one more and if they are waiting to add a game, it would probably be a 50/50 or money game they are trying to obtain.

Regarding a game at State, no mention of Campbell here....

Overall, the only thing new/different I've found is that Coker's official site shows an exhibition at Campbell Thursday Nov. 1st.

They've added another home game vs a pretty good D-1 opponent...

Dec 4 vs Robert Morris

This might be the toughest home game opponent of the season.

That is becasue Lowe did not have the guts to be a good coach. Glad he is gone. He was a good player but sucked as a coach.

Actually State should not judge us on that game. That is the best game we played all year. They need to schedule us in February. They would have won by 40.

I remember talking to someone in the Athletic Dept last year and I thought they said we had set up a 2 for 1 deal with Sate. I was under the impression this year we would play at Campbell and next year at State.

It wasn't a 2 for 1. It was a 1 for none. CU got payed $$$ to go play at Reynolds.

The reason it will be a while before you see another ACC or equal team is because of how well we played against them. It is that simple. NC State will be a far fetched dream in my mind.

You have to remember that they usually get killed when they do get scheduled. UNCA didn't this year with State and I imagine Coach Gott and Yow won't make that mistake again, just like with us. It took 10-15 years for us to get State again after we beat them at Reynolds back in the early 90s. I'm not sure why we can't get scheduled with the other big dogs in the conference (see Duke and UNC) (do we ask for too much money, no interest by the other team, etc?). And, trust me, I can't see any of the Big 4 coming to the Creek to play. Those schools just don't do that, because there is no incentive for them. The best you could hope for is a neutral court battle. Either way, we have to start beating A&T-like schools before we can even begin realistically talking about the power conference schools.

War Camel!
