I thought they did a poor job last year pressuring the quarterback, SMU was a great example, and Tulsa showed that they could dominate the d line by running it up the gut towards the end of the game (at home at that). The offense should be much more consistent with the talent in the backfield and the returning starters on the offensive line. Just alittle over a month to find out. I can't wait.

You really think UCF is going to win at Ohio State in Columbus?

I said I was being a homer, but with the change of offensive philosophies with Meyer, a chance at more turnovers, a better offense by UCF, (I was not impressed with OSU's defense last year), and some luck, why not.

I agree with this. I don't see OSU as some unconquerable juggernaut. They are changing coaches and coming off of a bad break with their last coach, that always has an effect on a team.

Granted, the new coach is Urban Meyer, who we all saw build Bowling Green and Utah into good teams from his first day there and we will be playing in large, very hostile environment. But to act like UCF has only a puncher's chance at victory is overly pessimistic. Now I'm not saying I expect us to win, but this isn't like that year we played UF and were just hoping to avoid a shutout.

That was a much different UCF team psychologically and talent wise against Florida. I would say we have a sporting chance. OSU does have a new coach a new system and some analysts believe not as good as a team as they've had in years. It'll be about shutting down their running Qb Braxton Miller. UCFs defense will need to be paramount.

I have to agree also with this on the defensive front. Their front seven was not exactly putting on a lot of pressure. Maybe with the extra experience, it will be better.

Phil Steele has also named UCF #1 most improved team this year, do the players buy the hype? We saw last season what it looks like when the team doesn't think they have to earn the win, FIU & UAB.

Heart says we can win them all, but I can see another 5-7 season if we do similar crap as last year.

Sort of only 4 gimmies on the slate w no FCS teams this year.

@ Akron - W
@ Ohio State - L Could very easily switch to a W but it will be tight and it has to be perfect football early in the season when UCF in generally still fine tuning.
FIU - W Hopefully its mercy rule by half-time
Mizzou - W Home field advantage
ECU - W Where's Dominque Davis?
USM - W Where's Austin Davis?
@Memphis - W
@Marshall - W
SMU - W
@UTEP - W
@Tulsa - L or W jury is still out on this one....
UAB - W

Final Record: 10-2. C-USA Champs

Yeah I'm a UCF homer...so what. That's what happens when your very first game is when UCF breaks the losing record against Marshall and you go running crazy and tearing down goal posts.

Realistically though minus the whole GOL BS and the usualy pessimistic attitude we all reasonably have each year, I think we should be putting a solid team on the field this year.

I was on the Mizzou board, some of them think that we're a trap game, but most think that we're going to be a gimme for them. I guess no one told them that Myerberg & Steele have us ranked higher than them...

Nothing wrong with being a "homer." I think the conference from top to bottom is going be highly competitive this season...Mind if I take a run at this topic?

@Akron : W @Ohio State - I smell an upset coming: W Florida International - W Missouri - L (a close one) East Carolina - W Southern Mississippi- L @ Memphis- W @ Marshall - L SMU - L @UTEP - W @Tulsa - L UAB - L (guess I'm a "homer", too!) 03-lmfao ....Should be a fun year...Looking forward to it, especially conference play.

6-6 and a bowl invite...

The roster entering the big east will be deeper than ever. The question how we will make it through this season. UCF doesn't do well with expectations.

Yeah, but if do well this year, aren't we due to have a terrible first season in the BE?

If you guys come in with depth you will be competetive right off the bat....the Big East is really fun, almost like NFL league due to no powerhouse and any team can win it any year and the games are actaully pretty good, close, and always fun to watch. THe media doesnt give us our due...look at how many great Thur night games the Big East has provided....this is just a taste of what the rest of the nation has missed on Saturdays. You guys will fit in well...

I think you missed the joke. Since 2004
0-11
8-5
4-8
10-4
4-8
8-5
11-3
5-7

Around here, if we have a good year one year, we expect a bad one the next. The only exception was last year because we had the back to back winning seasons, we thought that the team had finally learned to be consistent.

You're correct in saying we have the talent to be competitive right out of the gate in the BE. Some of us just aren't sure if that talent is mentally capable of that right now.

RE: What will UCFs record be this Fall?
A long time UCF fans opinion .

We handily beat Akron, FIU, UTEP,Memphis, UAB and Marshall.

Split ECU and SoMiss [ rarely do we beat both in the same year]

Toss ups with SMU and Tulsa so maybe a split.

Losses to OSU and Mizzou.

So I say probably 8 and 4.

As always with the Knights - a suprise win [ Mizzou??] and a loss when there should have been a win [ Marshall?]

Best news is the season SHOULD be much better than 2011 and the quality of football will be very good.

Some thoughts and things I'd love to see:

- Storm Johnson run like Kevin Smith

- a win in the closing seconds on a J Godfry catch

- consistantly long punt/ kickoff returns

- school record for fewest turnovers

- taking OSU down to the last minute to ruin their day

- winning the NCAA appeal, beating Houston in the title at home

- beating a Big East school [ Like Cincy or Rutgers ] in a bowl.

Just one man's dream season for the Knights

RE: What will UCFs record be this Fall?
Looks like a lot of us were wrong with our preseason predictions. I've seen every UCF game this year (DirectTV loves them) and other than the usual predicted defeats by Ohio St. and Missouri they've been pretty much steamrolling everyone else (they haven't scored less than 33 points in any of their 7 wins). I really thought SMU would be a test tonight, but I guess not. Look for some poll votes starting this week. One more test at Tulsa in two weeks, which could be a preview of a rematch. They are clearly the class of C-USA EAST this year and if they stay healthy and consistent it could lead to a nice finish.

On a different topic, they appear to be Big East ready. Their size, speed and talent on both sides of the ball are better than I thought. The only thing in UCF's way as they migrate to the Big East is that 900lb gorilla of a record against BCS schools hanging on their back. Will they turn into Temple when they get there and go 1-11 for 10 straight years, or will they finally break through a realize all that "potential" the school, fans and media have been talking about for 25-years? Time will tell.
