And then there is this. I don't think LA's life will get any easier. The pendulum swings.

RE: Lance Armstrong
Could someone explain how the USADA can strip him of his titles? The races were on french soil and governed by the UCI; what authority does an American pseudo-governmental agency have on this?

RE: Lance Armstrong
As best I can tell, they don't. Just another bureaucrat tooting a horn about a power that is not in its portfolio.

Now, the logical progression is that it will likely ultimately result in him forfeiting those titles, but not a guarantee. The USADA went outside its normal time window of findings (5 years, I think), of which it has the right to do so. And normally, a positive doping finding would result in the loss of a Tour title. But there is a lot of grey area in terms of how some other bureaucrat might ultimately want to form its findings.

A normally leads to B, but I think the USADA jumped the gun by announcing that. Clearly, the international components are taking their time to follow up.

I've definitely heard a lot of second hand stories about him around Austin that don't paint him as a particularly loveable sort of a guy.

Anderson's claims have been around for a while. The lawsuit took place in the middle of the last decade. BTW, the drug/supplement that Anderson claimed to find in Lance's apt. in Spain wasn't even on the banned list.

As far as USADA being able to strip the titles, they have to submit their evidence to UCI and then UCI has to evaluate it. If there remains a dispute between the two organizations, they go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Jordan wasn't a particularly nice guy either, neither was Steve Jobs; incredibly competitive to the point of obsessive. Probably contributed to their rise to the top of their respective fields.

Personally, I would like to see some real evidence. The claims that the UCI, French officials, WADA etc. were all in bed together seem a little far fetched. It would be a conspiracy that would rival the alleged moon landing.

Just to clarify, in case it didn't come through, the last sentence was tongue-in-cheek.

This could leave a mark. 11 teammates testified. We already knew about Andreu, Hamilton, Landis, and there were rumors about Hincapie. Nothing released yet but sounds like the case file was finally handed from USADA to UCI. Don't know when/if any of it will go public. Looking worse for LA...

ETA: Oh, dear. Curiously named "Reasoned Decision" includes a very detailed narrative of the case against LA. Affidavits aren't attached but are heavily referenced. If guys like Leipheimer and Hincapie are providing this kind of information it's pretty much lights out.

Quote:Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned for life by cycling's governing body Monday following a report from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency that accused him of leading a massive doping program on his teams.

UCI President Pat McQuaid announced that the federation accepted the USADA's report on Armstrong and would not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

RE: Lance Armstrong
I watched a TV interview with Greg LeMond a couple of years ago. He was not warm and fuzzy. He was asked and stated that he knew LA was doping. At the time I thought it was sour grapes, as LA had replaced LeMond in the minds of Americans interested in cycling. Plus they had legal issues. Now, it doesn't appear to be sour grapes.

Lance might finally come clean next week. It's about time the Armstrong supporters gave up their fight.

It is good that hot dogs and beer are not banned substances.
