Would you expect South Alabama to win the Sun Belt this year?
Yes.

Everyone is predicting South to be last....I would not be surprised if they got a few conference wins.

No offense to South, but I would.
Don't forget....WKU was a winning 1-AA school as well, when it entered the SBC.

And so was Troy, and we did very well for ourselves.

The only hope that we have is something HC Jones said.
He talked about studying the transition of FCS schools and the recent FBS start ups.
He spent some time with Coach Howard talking about the difficulties and mechanics of starting up a new program.
He said he made some tweaks and adjustments to how he approached recruiting and planning based on the information he got.
If we pull off a win or two in SB play this year, it will be because that stuff actually paid off.
But our coaching staff knows this is the season from hell.
My favorite offseason HCJJ quote is
"I look at our schedule and sleep like a baby. I wake up every two hours screaming."

Sure, they might win a game or two, but my only point was that you said hopefully Texas State wins the WAC, well it's just about the same thing as South Alabama winning the Sun Belt, the only difference would be Texas State has a few less teams to go through, maybe even a few less quality teams, but small as they may be, the WAC still has some quality teams, as much as none of us want to give Tech credit for anything, they're playing some good football these days and would certainly be no worse than a top half team in the Belt.

Different situations that have been addressed before.
Regardless, who knows how we'll fair this year. I do think we'll sneak up and surprise someone on game day. But aside from that, I have no idea how we'll do. Curious to find out.

I think Texas St has a much better shot at beating Idaho and NMSU, than So Al has with FAU.
I can't imagine Idaho and NMSU having much fight in them this year.

That's one way to look at it, of course Idaho and NMSU could at least try to rally and make "one last stand" ya know?
But even if Idaho and NMSU come out listless and lose to Texas State, them winning two isn't really coming close to winning the WAC. If Texas State goes 2-4 and USA goes 2-6, 1-7 or even 0-8, Texas State might have technically been closer to the top, but neither of them were really a factor.

I guess we'll need to keep repeating it: WKU won the 1AA NC in 2002 and was FBS in 2009. In the intervening years Coach Harbaugh retired and the new coach (Elson) was thoroughly interfered with by the administration in handling his team. They were no where close to the same program that one the title when they entered FBS.
As for USA this year, I'm just praying for one FBS win. Anything extra is gravy.
