President Runte would also come on to our WODU post-game shows because she sat at the end of the press table. She was always supportive of student organizations and I saw her at more wrestling matches in one year than I ever saw President Koch in the years he was president and I was a student.

You can't be serious. Runte is largely responsible for ODU being as great as ODU is today. She was an extremely personable, dynamic, and engaged leader. I don't think I saw her sit down for longer than 10 minutes at a basketball game during her tenure as president. 1. Two Runte stories and I'm out: A random Lady Monarchs game one of our girls goes down in a heap on the floor. She is in pain. Runte strolls out on the floor and comforts the girl along with the coaching staff. 2. The day after I had elbow surgery we had a basketball game at The Ted. I'm not missing a game so I roll into the place in a brace and a sling. Runte kind of freaks out a little when she walked up to my seats. Asked what happened and if I was going to be okay. I'm no VIP, just some loud mouth that sat down low. Runte is just a very nice lady that we were fortunate enough to have lead our University for a time.

Except for her dealings with Hamilton. :popo:

I do stand corrected though - I was thinking of President Koch (1990 - 2001) and Jim Jarrett who were against football.

My point still stands that it was being frequently discussed long before 2006.
