Recap of UTSA/UIW 7 on 7
The guys at Coker Chronicles have a recap of our 7 on 7 scrimmage against Incarnate Word. The game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Coker Chronicles

I would have posted the entire recap but I don't know whether that's ok on this board.

I don't think a 7 on 7 scrimmage is a very good indicator of actual on field play. It is good to showcase our skilled positions though, and it seemed that we did good.

Our skilled positions ties a lower division team and you think we did "good"? You must have very low expectations of our team.

Lets not go TITANIC! It was only 7 On 7 means nothing.

I think it does matter at least a little. It is all about perception to the causal fan.

Well I don't have high expectations of our team. I know they will try their best, but their best is not good enough at the FBS/WAC level. And it is definitely not good enough at the CUSA level. We are yet to recruit a full FBS talented class.

7 on 7 means nothing. Back in my Marine corps days, I couldve prob outran some of our corners and DB's. I was good at playing catch as well. That doesn't mean I was able to do outperform our team with full gear and in front of 35k people watching me.

It is true about fan perception. But honestly, the casual fan prob didn't even know we tied UIW and never will care about anything other than going to see the game, if we are putting out a winning product. Us diehards, well most of us won't stop supporting our team anyways, even if we lost against Wagner high school.

I remember two years ago Longhorn fans were upset that Texas State tied them in a 7 on 7 game. Just keep in mind, its non-contact. Any size advantage is negated. It's like comparing a good flag football player to an real football player.

I was thinking about that, didn't bring it up cause I had forgotten who the team was that scrubbed the longhorns on a 7 v 7.

My brother in law is a pretty good flag football player, his team has won the San Antonio league a couple of times. He is their star player. He swears that his skills would be equally impressive on the field with full pads. But this guy is a 5' 8 wide receiver that did not get any offers out of high school. It just isn't the same when you take away the size factor, and the ability to play well, under pressure and in a game that means something.

We've actually talked to the staff about this.

They look at two key things, it helps with summer conditioning and reps between the skill position players and the QB's, since 7 on 7 is primarily passing. After that, there's not much more that the UTSA staff put's stock in.

Just an fyi....

Ditto. Summer is soooo boring. No Spurs. No sports. No nothing.
