That's true, however ODU won the tournament. It was a point system that year and one that I have never herd of before. In that game they shot 41 free throws, we shot 3! Blaine was thinking of official misconduct charges.
http://espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=243330357 -Box score. FT's were 32 to 5.
Texas A&M-CC ended up 20-8 playing an independent schedule. Also beat Florida St. and Baylor.

RE: 2012-13 Men's Basketball Schedule
Baylor finished 9-19 (1-15), FSU 12-19 (4-12) that year. Definitely not a game we should have lost and it might have cost us an NCAA bid had we not won the VCU Invitational. Their RPI was 107... ours was 21, but that was before the CAA had ever done anything and we were rewarded with a 12 seed opposite Izzo.

Ok, 32-5! Now use your lookup ability to find a game with a bigger difference in FT!

RE: 2012-13 Men's Basketball Schedule
Down to one opening on the schedule.
"Old Dominion is looking for a H/H to finish our schedule. Willing to start on the road. Available dates are Nov 24, 28, and Dec 18."
Teams looking for games that fit that criteria: College of Charleston, St. Marys, La Salle.
December 1st off the list makes that the probable VCU date.

RE: 2012-13 Men's Basketball Schedule
We will end up with a very nice OOC schedule this season. Most of it is already in place and probably another good game coming.
This season is all about gaining experience with a very young group of players.
The trip to Greece and Italy will help a lot with extra practice time, game time and bonding time.
The "home tourney" is all about the same thing. It's 3 games for the price of 1 on the schedule. More game experience for the team getting them ready for what will prove to be a pretty tough OOC schedule and the grind of the CAA regular season.
Relax and enjoy.

How do we only have one slot to fill? Anyone have any inside info on deals we might have made?

What will happen during the conference schedule? We will have an odd number of teams, so somebody has got to sit out when conference is in play.

The home/home is Alabama starting on the road, not yet inked but close.

That would be great.
Anthony Grant gets it. Taking the UA brand to new markets because he recruits hard. And he's coming to Richmond this year too.

That's awesome, while Alabama is not a marquee name in basketball, it is a big name school. Great add!

I wish we could have penciled in a big school like Kentucky or Kansas. That would be an awesome and we could get an upset. That might be why they dont want us. I loved watching the game last year against Kentucky.

I don't like the Fairfield move. That is a resume killer if they beat us... and they are capable.

RE: 2012-13 Men's Basketball Schedule
I was hoping we'd go another round with Georgetown at some point. It probably wouldn't have been a good match-up this year anyway, but once we develop presence in the paint again it could be interesting. Likely a sellout at the Ted, and I'm sure ODU fans could show up in force a few hours up 95 as well.

Fairfield's RPI was 111 last year. That's not horrible, and if they are better this season, that would be a Top 100 win if we manage it, and if we don't a loss to a Top 100 team doesn't kill you.
And, I mean, it's Fairfield. Do we, as a program, want to be scared of scheduling top 100-125 RPI teams?

Not only that, but we ought to be looking to pay them back for the damage that they did to us last year. That may have been the lowest point (at least for me) of a very difficult season.

RE: 2012-13 Men's Basketball Schedule
The Fairfield loss last season was a punch in the guts, certainly. They've been consistently capable over the last few seasons, and I could see them giving us trouble. They graduated Olander but they've got another big (Van Nes, So.) listed at 7ft. I don't remember seeing him play, but if he's a banger then we may have issues in the paint. I think the only player we've got resembling a banger is Painter.

Not "scared" of them, but 111 RPI team is exactly what we don't want coming into the Ted. Good team, but bad loss. This game becomes a must win.
