SBC Moving to 9 Game Conference Schedule (Football)
What are you thoughts on this? Should come into play around 2015.

Huh? Wouldn't the Sun Belt play a 9 game schedule in 2013, barring any further defections?

If I remember correctly, the time frame was put in 2015 so that conference schools would be able to play out current contracts with future opponents.

That's right. Originally they were going to go with eight and the schools scheduled accordingly but last year they made the decision to go with nine.

Its going to really make it difficult for teams to get 6 home games, especially the years where you only get 4 league home games. It only leaves you 3 nonconference games, and if you have to play 2 of those as money games, it really limits you.

I don't like it and don't understand why a conference that needs OOC victories to improve would want to play itself more.

Not really.

We will play 9 conference games. That leaves 3 games.

This encourages more games against FCS teams.

Every team will probably play 1 money game (L for the most part) one lower teired team in a home/home series, and 1 LOW teired (FCS??) team at home.

FBS teams don't play DII schools. UCA is DI.

Better then getting whipped by two body bag games a year. That really doesn't help. One a year is enough.

So we're forced to play two body bag games just because we can?

Not saying y'all but there are teams that are known to do it.

Well I meant "we" collectively as a conference. I'd like the option to play more OOC. I see your point though as this sort of forces the hand of some programs.

I agree that more OOC games are fun and in TXSTs case I know that means one body bag, one FCS, and one home and home (if possible). Problem is that if it's a home and home then that game will be away at one point and you lose a home game. I'd like to lose the FCS game to solve that problem but like our AD has said we need home games and that one is guarenteed.

Hopefully they will get two home and homes set up to avoid such a situation.

8 games would be better on the wallet, it would lessen travel costs, and provide an opportunity to generate revenue either from a 2nd BCS opponent on the road or more chances to sign home and homes with quality opponents to help with season ticket sales.

Unfortunately at 10 teams that is somewhat unconventional. Yet one more reason why 9 or 12 is the ideal number of football playing schools for a conference. If only there were two teams the Sun Belt could add.

On the plus side with 5 home conference games every other year there is the chance to have 7 home games with a home and home and a fcs team.

And a minimum of 5 home games.
