Facility Upgrades Priority List
I know the Athletic Department has a number of facility upgrade projects facing them with the move to CUSA. However, I'm not sure if there is a priority list for each of these. If I had to rank them in order of importance, it'd go something like this:
1) Stadium Expansion
2) Basketball Practice Facility
3) Wrestling/Volleyball Competition Site (conversion of the old practice gym)
4) Baseball Stadium Expansion/Upgrade
5) Indoor Practice Facility (way down the line....)
However, I think it's probably more likely that the BB practice facility and wrestling/volleyball site will be accomplished first, since fundraising has already started for those projects. Either way, we're looking at tens of millions of dollars in facilities upgrades in the coming decade. That should prove both challenging and exciting for the ODAF & ODU fans.

More/better facilities = higher profile = bigger recruits = more exposure = great for us with ODU degrees. I'm siked.

I was hoping the new basketball practice facility would have a couple thousand seats. One of the coolest games I watched at ODU was the monarchs beating Georgetown in their McDonough Arena where it was absolutely insane in there!!! I guess my hope would be for a new Volleyball/Wrestling site to be able to host it, but not likely.

RE: Facility Upgrades Priority List
Has there been an official statement from ODU concerning the football stadium expansion or the baseball stadium expansion/upgrade?

Not to my knowledge. But so far Radfords been pretty darn close with his articles and his "predictions" so I assume his statement about the North end zone section going down to be connected as a horse shoe at the end of season to probably be what is going to happen. It just makes the most sense as well.

No, the old BB practice facility is going to be converted into a Volleyball/Wrestling facility.

There have been pretty substantial upgrades at the baseball facility this year. Looks to me like the soccer stadium could use sprucing up. The old fencing surrounding the playing field looks pretty dated... I also heard from a FB recruit who attended a ODU camp in the spring that there are plans to expand the football/field hockey complex on Powhatan (to include an athletes-only dining facility and lounge) and add a covered FB practice facility.

Dang, that sounds awesome. Where would they have room for that though? The only way I see sufficient room being made is if they get rid of the Powhatan parking lot, Granby field, or build on the other side of Powhatan, which'd require property acquisition.

The expansion of the Powhatan Facility would go on the grass lot between the end of the current facility and the start of the practice field. The location of the covered practice facility was in the area of the current field hockey field and Norfolk public school stadium. ODU leases the stadium to the city and the lease is up soon, which could create an opportunity for the covered practice facility. Not sure if or how likely in the short term, but nice to know there is a plan in place for continued upgrading of FB and other facilities...

Would the indoor practice facility need to cover both the Field Hockey field and granby field? I don't see why it couldn't just cover Granby Field. And where would the field hockey team play?

Sorry, should have clarified... not both, one or the other. It depends on what happens with the lease to Norfolk. I guess if it is renewed, ODU would have to find another location for the covered practice field.

How about the upgrades to the Ted? I thought there were rumblings of a new HD scoreboard, LED ribbons around the arena, and an LED advertisement sign at the scorer's table.
Where does this fit in on priority - maybe after bb practice facility?

RE: Facility Upgrades Priority List
I know that this is off topic but I've been dying to hear about it and thought it could loosely fit into facility upgrades. Does anyone know the status right now on the new Engineering building and the new Diehn addition? I know that they just started in May, but I haven't been able to get to campus to check on progress...

The last I've seen ( earlier this month), Diehn's parking lot has been closed off with a picture of what the future facility will look like, and I had not seen any sign of work beginning for engineering.
