VMF Being Prepped For Demolition
Quote:Removal of Field House facade to begin
June 03, 2012 @ 09:40 PM
The Herald-Dispatch

HUNTINGTON -- Crews will begin about a two-week process to remove the facade on the south side of Veterans Memorial Field House, which contains an inscription to memorialize veterans, for use in the new soccer stadium complex for Marshall University.

VMF Being Prepped

Looks like things are starting to move forward. The asbestos removal started about 3 weeks ago. The VMF should be ready for demo by the middle of the month. Im not really a soccer fan but this stadium should help our men's and women's soccer program and help our athletics over all which is a good thing. I don't think any of this would have gotten started without the hiring of Mike Hamrick. So kuddo's to Mr Hamrick for wanting Marshall to move in the right direction.

I know this is probably in the realm of fantasy, but it'd pretty cool if the Herd picked up a lacrosse team; they could easily use the soccer field and since they play in spring, there would be minimal schedule conflict.

Heck, maybe we could replace baseball with it...

I don't see us ever adding another sport unless the NCAA or conference we are in would make it manditory. And LAX is mainly a NE sport. If we are going to play fantasy sports lets bring back wrestling and even it out with bowling. That way we wouldn't have to build any facilities at all.

LAX is possibly the fastest growing sport in the country and we are fairly close to some power programs in UVA, Johns Hopkins, Duke, & UNC. OSU, VMI, and the beltway schools are also close.

Ive tried to watch lacrosse because I thought it might be like hockey without any hitting. When I set down to watch it I find myself turning the channel within the 1st 5-10 mins.

And BTW Hamrick has a plan for a baseball stadium that he is going to roll out once the other facilities get underway. The location is most likely going to be the AMC Parking lot.

really? I've always liked its fast paced nature, its a refreshing springtime change from the sluggishness of baseball.

And if the baseball facility does fall through, I would think switching sports is really the best option.

We've got a LAX club filled with kids from out of state that grew up with it. I just don't see lacrosse doing well in Huntington, WV. We need a MEN's track program more than anything right now. Doc could use it for recruiting purposes.
