I saw this over on the CR board. Man that's bad. I hate colored fields in general.

It looks bad at Boise and it will look even worse at Maryland. Yikes.

Change the field to green (keep the pattern) and we might have a deal.

There's also the question of lacrosse. Home games at played at Byrd but that's no longer an option unless we have two versions of the turf and swap them out in March and June

I like the end zones. I think it would look better if they did a black/gray shell in the middle of the field as a background for the traditional "M" or "Terps." The whole field in black seems gimmicky.

If Maryland pulls this bush league stunt the ACC needs to take away all their home conference games. This is something that members of the Big Sky (which Boise State was a member of when they installed the blue turf, and Eastern Washington ) and Southland (Central Arkansas) do as a gimmick to get their name out there. This isn;t something that major college programs need to do.


I thank the Lord that Clemson is an Ag school and has an outstanding turfgrass program so that it would become a major embarrassment to install plastic grass in the first place, much less the joke of a colored turf field.

I'm just glad that Andy Warhol was not a UMD alumnus, or we may see something even more outlandish if some young artist tried to channel his artistic spirit...

That suggestion actually sounds pretty cool. I'm all for color in the endzones and a cool midfield logo with different colors but the main parts of the field should be plain old green. Can even do the alternating shades like we do at Rutgers and at other schools.

I made a semi-serious suggestion that the Idaho Vandals should install a black field.

Maryland used to have a classic look before under armour took over. The funny thing is, players would probably go for the black field!

Maybe they plan to play in all-black unis on a black field... in the hopes they'll get more interceptions (like Boise St supposedly gets at home).

How hot, literally, would that field get? Cannot imagine players liking it temperature wise. They would need to just about play naked.
Maybe grey with black M might be cooler. September games would be torture. Like the end zones.

Hate to say it but just about every team that did a colored field won right after that so can see why some schools want to change their turf schemes.

my unofficial prediction is that the black filed won't happen and if it does, it will last maybe two seasons as the players will "bad mouth" if because of the heat during September games. [insanity has taken over]
