Last week, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported the Big East expected to add either BYU or Air Force later this fall.

I think the Big East is set on 14 football members...because the $$$ may not be there to divide by 16 teams.

I agree. I think it comes down to BYU. If they say yes, we stop at 14. If they say no, we add AF and stop at 14.

And its easy to understand why BYU would take their time...especially because:

1) What would BYU have to pay ESPN for breaking THEIR individual TV contract with the network?

2) If ESPN wins a "share" of Big East TV Deal...would BYU still be able to own their tier 3 rights for their BYU Channel?

3) How many games would BYU have to buyout/cancel (hopefully move) if they joined the Big East contract in different scenarios:

Join in 2013?

Join in 2014?

Join in 2015?

BYU's situation is very complicated...but it seems that BYU is the #1 target of the Big East...and it seems that the conf is giving BYU "time" to get all of their ducks in a row, plus, possible wait till the Big East starts taking open bids for conf TV rights this November.

Yeah, I'm thinking #14 is joining in 2015, whether it is BYU or AFA. No rush either way.

Even if not announced publicly, it likely will be communicated privately to the networks. Either that, or an assumed worst case with AF, which would likely be less attractive to the networks than BYU.

I listened to the interview and Wolo was prodding RC to make a guess about a number and he finally relented and said "double digits". I wouldn't read too much else into it. I still think based on where the marketplace is and the increase in inventory, the BE will get between $10M-$14M.

Considering the deal the BE turned down last year was for 10 teams, including UCF - a school the conference hadn't even extended an offer towards at the time- I'd say the BE could absolutely use a placeholder and see what the numbers are with either BYU, AFA, or Fresno, and use that info to gauge who to invite for 2015.

I didn't listen, only read the recap. That makes me feel better. Thanks.

Might not be a change at all, as the UCF guy interpreted it. Just a difference in the way the question was asked, and RC's unwillingness to be specific. Plus, nobody really knows yet, anyway. I was only concerned that RC heard something that made him reconsider, but now, I think not.
