Why do you UNT fans have this need to put down other schools in Texas? Not only here but on the WAC boards too? There's very few UNT fans that show any sort of class on these message boards. I see why no one in the Sun Belt is shedding any tears that you guys are leaving.

I dont see the reasoning behind making that large of a league. I see the advantages of it, but You would have a hard time convincing me that the TV money would be that much better for such a league.

I agree. Lamar was a member of the Sun Belt way back when ('91 - '98), several years before UNT was. Lamar, in fact, has good facilities compared to other Sun Belt schools and their football program has much potential. I wouldn't be upset with Lamar re-joining the Sun Belt. Their stadium holds 16,000, not a sky-high number, but capable to be expanded. The last two years, they've averaged around 13k-15k with some games sellouts against teams like Webber International, Sam Houston State, Langston, and South Alabama. And I don't see why UNT fans should knock the expansion candidates of a conference that they're leaving. A 16 team league might be too much, but if we were to add a football playing member in the west, we should give Lamar some attention.

Lamar brings neither market, nor excellance. I am not anti LU but they need to do a lot of building before I would want them in.

Next spring I could see possibly taking NMSU and App State together if we want a 12 school football league.

For what it's worth, Lamar has been drawing well for years (in both FB and basketball), is quite competitive in both basketball and baseball and has good facilities. Plus Beaumont is more cajun in nature, so there'd be natural rivalries with ULL and ULM; they used to be in the Southland together. And it isn't far from Houston.

I wouldn't bother arguing for LAMAR, it really doesn't matter what anyone here thinks. LU is quietly building up their athletic program and if they do pursue an invite to the Sun Belt, it'll be done secretly behind the scenes.

Lamar has the potential to become a viable member of the SBC. I would place them (perfect footprint) ahead of the long list of "popular" wannabes. Lamar could fit right into this league.

That is CUSA's reasoning. Make it larger because they didn't have the quality. That is the reason most of them know it will get even larger soon. ECU's AD Terry Holland said exactly that yesterday on the radio.

I think if the SBC is planning to expand by 2 more FCS schools anyways, then now is the time to do it. I've seen where people seem to think that SBC expansion is only on hold for now? If you add them now then it doesn't look as bad with all the other FCS teams just brought up. Might actually look better considering it appears you'd be bringing in better (current) FCS programs than CUSA did. This of course is assuming you invite App St and Ga Southern. Which to me is both great choices.

Either way I wish you guys the best, I think when this is all over with the Big East, Sun Belt, MWC, CUSA, and possibly the leftovers from the ACC will all be in one division together anyways. To me, we're all up against the big boys so I wish you guys nothing but the best.

I was in Beaumont for the 2010 game. It was not a sellout. They do have a nice stadium, but would definitely need seats added for FBS.

I did look and see 16,150 for the attendance for that game (stadium capacity is 16,000) but who knows. What did you think of the atmosphere there? I bet they've got plans for additions if the FBS comes a' callin'.

The stadium was really nice. Large video board, nice suite setup in the endzone. Wasn't overwhelmed by the atmosphere though. Some tailgaters, some crowd noise, I think there was a band, but nothing wowing.

Lamar has pretty good facilities already. - i.e., the Montagne center is first class http://montagnecenter.com/index.php . It's about as impressive as UTA's new facility. Lamar's football stadium is nice, but needs to be expanded to be more in line with FBS standards. The good news is it can be done with the structure already there and Lamar has alumni with pretty deep pockets waiting for the FBS move. As far as atmosphere, I think it will improve greatly with a move to FBS. That's just the way college football is in Texas, football is king and FBS is its kingdom. I'd have no problem with them in the SBC.
