What we have here is the rare combo of a double chin and a fivehead. His wife must make all the others jealous at the nail salon.

That's an old article, written 4 days after we announced.

Huh?
It was published today, and according to the author's tweet, the interview was today.

I'm talking about the CBS article. The guy had 4 days to assess the situation and it shows in the article.

Speaking of storms, I'm guessing everyone heard about the flood conditions at JMU a few days ago. The field at Bridgeforth was submerged for a little while. I was reading a thread on the topic over at the JMU corner of the Zone and someone mentioned an engineering flaw in the flood countermeasures (namely their flood walls). I don't know what Foreman Field/S.B. Ballard Stadium has in the way of flood plans and countermeasures, but since we're in a low-lying area and in immediate proximity to two fairly large bodies of water, I figure we must have something. I suppose those countermeasures will be made more visible at the conclusion of stadium expansion proceedings, when there's new elements of property to protect from the elements. Any thoughts?

We have nothing. There is no defense to being around elevation 9.
The entire campus is at risk.

I was about to say... I don't think there is much in any way around where we live. Especially in those parts of Norfolk. I was there during Isabel and there really is nothing you can do. Just build so the water can come and go quick as possible... I can ask my co-workers. We did the stadium design and I can maybe get some insight from the Civil dept on how they do design for such issues in this area. Good topic.

I always hated driving to school when it rained because Hampton Blvd was always flooded.

I walked to class during Floyd and the Lion infront of Webb was not visibly in a fountain. It looked like more in a pond.

I walked across campus DURING Isabelle (by choice) and Foreman field was under water. No flood gates known will protect Norfolk. Just try to insure a house near the water.

RE: ODU, the CAA, C-USA, and Realignment Storms..
The Game Day building floor is probably set at least a foot above the 100 year flood level. So water probably won't get in there unless its catastrophic and then Foreman Field is the least of everyone's worries. I looked at GIS and the area and along hampton and 49th between the stadium and where the commons area is is where water will go first. Which is probably worse than it going towards the stadium for sure.

ODU had class one year in the early 2000s with a hurricane hitting the area. Of course my dumb*** when to class and nearly flooded out on some backroad off Hampton Blvd. No clue what I was thinking, I have a 4x4.......though it was a Kia Sportage. 03-banghead

^Yea. I remember they never cancelled classes and it was a solid 2-3' of water. I only went because I had a jeep w/ 33's and a 3.5" lift so I figured it be fun heh. I barely made it.

We used to laugh at the closing policy when I went to ODU.
Allegedly; ODU could only cancel classes by an order of the BOV.
If the weather was THAT bad, the BOV couldn't get together to meet. 04-chairshot

Yea, I remember scratching my head at that... and during Isabel or some other storm one of the BOVs was in Michigan or something? And had no idea what was going on so none of the classes were canceled when it was terrible out.

You haven't been to Legion Field in Birmingham yet, have you? Trust me, UTSA's going to have it better coming in in terms of facilities than my UAB Blazers, even if they're playing their home games in the Alamodome, it's light years ahead of the place we're stuck in, we are totally embarrassed as a fan base to be made to have to play our "home" games there, you'll see for yourself if you choose to take a road trip this way.

Once the new era of the conference begins with the addition of the new members, I think that UAB will be the only school in Conference USA that won't have an on-campus football stadium, everyone else will either actually have one or will be much closer than we are to getting one. Tulane is aggressively pursuing one, they may be the other exception, but I'm amazed at how receptive the other school's boards of trustees have been to getting better facilities for their football program, Charlotte's story has been the most impressive to me thus far. Apparently, Old Dominion Athletics is well supported on levels. Good luck to you this year and welcome to Conference USA.

2013 cannot get here fast enough. I cannot wait to play our first contest with the C-USA logo on the field. I cannot wait to see the fall of the CAA, or its dismal one bid every year to the NCAA. One and done first round.
