Must - do's in Atlanta?
I will be in Atlanta for 4 days in the next two weeks. I haven't been since 1992. What are must do's and eats?

I've got my Yankees-Braves tickets. I'm planning to go to the GA Aquarium, Coca Cola Museum and Centennial Park. Maybe Stone Mountain.

Any other suggestions? I was also told to stay in Mid-town.

Thanks!

Get some chicken and waffles at Gladys Knight's on Peachtree Street. Whenever my wife and I go to a Braves or Hawks game we always stop by the Varsity across from Georgia Tech. Get a frosted orange. High Museum of Art if that is your thing...haven't gotten to go yet, but it is a fantastic museum.

Our favorite place to eat in Atlanta (and one that was recommended by a poster who lives in Atlanta on here) was Cafe Intermezzo. It's a great date place or place to get a drink with your friends. Their dessert bar is second to none and is open til like 3 a.m. on weekends.

Stay away from any bars near the bus stations downtown. They ain't always what they appear to be.

Drive around I-285 from 4-6 pm on a weekday. You'll appreciate Memphis traffic even more than possible.

Really? Went there back in 2000 on a family trip and it seemed fine. Guess it changed.

It's definitely not good food, but something that one needs to do when in Atlanta. I always go for the chili burger meal with a side of self-loathing on the ride home.

Atlanta Fish Market

Piedmont Park for awesome views of the skyline; and the Botanic Garden there is nice

CNN tour

the High Museum of Art

And, of course, I like the Cheesecake Factory, esp. because we don't have one here.

It IS pretty expensive..yet still a must do when in Atlanta. Take MARTA to North Avenue Station and walk 2 blocks to the East (straight ahead when you come out of the station onto the street). If one wants to go shopping afterwards, get back on MARTA, disembark at Arts Center and take the shuttle to Atlantic Station. Once again, my wife makes me go there every time we are in that area cause of H&M and Ikea.

Chik-Fil-A headquarters has an interesting tour I hear. I think you may even have access to their employee lunch room, which is awesome because it features the menu in buffet format.

We have a five hour layover on our honeymoon in ATL. Are Ikea, H&M, and Varsity all close to each other?

If you want to spend some time just relaxing, I second alterego's suggestion of Piedmont Park, especially if you're there on a weekend. There is a good Farmer's Market, if you like that sort of thing, and it seems like there is always some kind of music. It's also a good place to find a comfy/beautiful spot to just kick back and read any day of the week. Have a great time, and if you score a date with Jeter, make sure and let all of us know!

Vortex, Tap in Midtown, Ormsby's, Flip Burger, if you can get the code, check out Prohibition

Also, if you get a chacne, check out ABC or Sweetwater on Friday's after work for "tastings"

It would be pretty packed but it can be done. Varsity is 2 stops on Marta from Arts Center (which is where the shuttle that runs from Atlantic Station starts). Atlantic Station is huge, and I would suggest taking the shuttle from H&M to Ikea, otherwise it is a 15 minute walk. From Hartsfield Jackson you are looking at (and this is pure guesstimation so take it for what it is worth) around 30-35 minutes to get to North Avenue. From there it is simply crossing two streets to get to the Varsity. From North Avenue you are looking at a total travel time of 10-15 minutes to get to Arts Center, then 10 minutes to wait for a shuttle, then 10 more minutes to get to Atlantic Station. The shuttle stops all throughout Atlantic Station, and you would get off at the JCPenny across the street from H&M.

So on pure estimation (I have done MARTA to North Avenue from College Park several times, which is one stop before Hartsfield-Jackson and it usually takes about what I said):

MARTA ride from HJA to North Avenue: 35 minutes
Varsity (including transit, order time, and eating): 30 minutes
MARTA from North Avenue to Arts Center: 15 minutes
Transit from Arts Center to H&M: 20 minutes

Total time to: 1 hour 40 minutes

Allow another hour on the way back...2 hours 40 minutes. Take into consideration your wife's shopping habits (mazel tov, btw) and getting through security (which I have always gotten through relatively quick there...I've traveled both foreign (Italy, Peru, and Argentina) and domestic multiple times) and you can make the call.

If you want to check for yourself, here are some helpful links that I have used in the past:
