"U.Va., Tech happy in ACC, not eyeing the exit"
U.Va., Tech happy in ACC, not eyeing the exit:

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/sports/spo...r-1945632/

"Virginia Tech's Jim Weaver and Virginia's Craig Littlepage said this week their programs are happy in the ACC, believe the league is as strong as ever and think the new television contract with ESPN is a big plus for the conference.

Both dismissed persistent internet rumors that Clemson and Florida State are about to bolt for the Southeastern Conference." (hopefully that also applies to the Big 12)

"I think the commitment of the 12, soon to be 14, institutions to each other is stronger than it's ever been," Littlepage said, referencing the upcoming additions of Pittsburgh and Syracuse. "A lot of the chatter and rumors that are going on is unfounded. No one is talking about other conferences. No other conferences have been in touch with schools from the ACC."

------------------

Of course, they are clearly out of the loop. The "dude" and others of equally impressive stature have said it's a done deal, just the paperwork remains.

I'm glad to hear it but they'll look like idiots if FSU and Clemson end up leaving this year.

I don't see how there hasn't been talk. At the same time I'm still not convinced anyone's leaving.

Has FSU or Clemosn officials confirmed their commitment to the Acc yet? It seems that other AD's and presidents are claiming that FSU and Clemson arent going anywhere, but nothing from those 2 institutions.

This is as close as it gets at Clemson:

Quote:“This board is very committed to Clemson athletics and Clemson sports. We want Clemson teams to be the best they can be. We are very interested in a football program that is selling at a high level, and we would consider, as we should, any viable option from any conference if we received any. We have not received any. In the meantime we are committed to working with the ACC to make it the strongest conference possible.

It doesn't really matter what they say because many teams have reaffirmed allegiance and left briefly afterwards. I'd rather them take the approach of Clemson's BOT Chair.

True. But in virtually everyone of those other instances, there has been a desire for the team in question to actually leave the conference they were in.

This is why if FSU and Clemson were to say these things, I would take it with a grain of salt, mainly because both teams have had wandering eyes toward the SEC for a while now. But when UVa, VT, GT, and Miami officials say these things, I tend to believe them. Each of these institutions are in the conference they want to be in.

It's why Big 12 "insiders" keep mentioning Louisville, Pitt, Maryland, etc. It's because they know VT, GT, and Miami are holding their ground. It's also likely why this slam-dunk decision for FSU and Clemson hasn't been made official yet because FSU won't go without bringing three from the neighborhood and so far only one has shown any real interest in going.

They are hoping the new playoff format will force those not wanting to leave to actually go. What happens if the new format doesn't do that?

Cheers,
Neil

Glad to hear as well. FSU and Clemson, IMO, would be making a mistake moving conferences... the ACC will be stronger than ever before in upcoming years, and it's the perfect time to consolidate strength and keep everyone together.

Well "FSU's Andy Haggard says Big 12 has not contacted school"

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...ted-school

If FSU leaves Miami, VT, GT, UNC, UVA and others to play in a conference located in Texas, OK, Kansas, Iowa and WV, the AD's at VT and UVA won't be looking like "idiots".

Haggard is publically verifying what they were apparently told: there haven't been contacts, despite what the "dude" of WV's insider sources have told him.

“We have not heard a thing and we have not approached them and they have not approached us,” said Haggard. “If anybody approaches us, we are certainly going to listen to them.

The real question is why shouldn't FSU and Clemson simply call the Big 12 and ask about options if that is want they want to do.

RE: "U.Va., Tech happy in ACC, not eyeing the exit"
The WVU fans think VT is an option for this Frankenstein conference they are building now.

I can't think of many conferences less appealing than Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Kansas, Kansas State, West Virginia, and Iowa State. I get they have a few good teams (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas) but my interest in those few games would not want me to join a league where I'll know nobody that graduated from those schools.

A lot of the fun of the ACC is running into people around town that graduated from other schools. VT has nothing in common with the B12 schools. The PAC12 would be more interesting to me.
