OS: Five Transfers to watch, Storm Johnson
Storm Johnson

Quote:UCF has had good luck finding top quality running backs especially under coach George O’Leary. The Knights coach has had an array of big, strong and fast backs who are able to get out of the backfield and make things happens. That’s why Storm Johnson should make an instant impact for O’Leary and the Knights. A top 25 recruit out of Georgia in 2009, the 6-foot-1, 217-pound Johnson landed in Miami with the Hurricanes. During his freshman season, he returned nine kickoffs for 194 yards and rushed nine times for 119 yards. He had a 71-yard touchdown against USF in the team’s regular-season finale. However he was buried on the depth chart and decided to transfer. His move to Orlando pairs him up with Latavius Murray and Brynn Harvey and provides the Knights with another player able to generate an instant spark on offense.

Replacing Ronnie Weaver (graduation) with Storm Johnson is a huge step up in talent level. In addition to Johnson, we have Murray, who was the MVP of the Liberty Bowl in 2010. Harvey, our third string tailback, was a 1000-yard rusher in 2009. This will be the deepest group of tailbacks we've ever had at UCF.

I appreciate Ronnie Weaver's work ethic and attitude, the guy really helped us out when we needed some depth and maturity in the backfield. It drove me nuts, however, how much playing time he got. Having Storm and Latavius competing for snaps makes me more excited than I've been since 24K's junior year (although neither is Kevin Smith).

Even though we have a lot of moving pieces on offense, I am quite optimistic they will all fit together well, especially after the first few games of the season.

I've read that Taafe is going to try to keep them both on the field in some capacity to try to give a dual threat. I'd like to be able to add a pass threat into the mix too so our offense doesn't become predictable.

You think we can throw in some more option plays into this offense? Are they quick enough to handle it?
