It would be interesting if it was a one time deal. Maybe talk Miami playing there when it is their turn to host the game as a "neutral" site game or something like that.

I still don’t believe, given their massive debt and their stadium limitations, that the Bearcats are a viable B12 candidate. Unlike Louisville, which has the facilities and the fan base to make that jump.

I still don't get how people can believe this bs line. Every university in the country is experiencing similar budget problems to UC right now. UC has chosen to address it by forcing the athletic program to take the brunt of the debt problems. UC would have the 2nd biggest endowment in the Big 12, giving it more than enough maneuvering room to change this decision if they saw fit.

The fact of the matter is that if UC could somehow garner a Big 12 invite, we couldn't afford not to take it because of the extra $10 million a year in revenue it would bring. Doc is revealing his limited brainpower every time he spouts off about this.

RE: Doc: A THOUGHT
GABP is grass. It would have to be after baseball season (so in November to make sure it definitely doesn't conflict with a baseball game) and the Reds would have to be willing to allow the field to be torn up by a football game. The surface would also be slower...which UC would have to be comfortable with. Other than that (and configuring a baseball field for football - including potentially removing pitcher's mound, covering dirt around bases, etc) I think it could be cool. I like the idea of bringing in a local team whose fanbase might be in the Reds' market. Playing there could be cool but it would have to make sense financially. Maybe getting some sponsorship (Great American football game) and a TV contract...to someone interested. Maybe make it a league home and home and play San Diego State at Petco the next year (obviously not local but I'm just brainstorming here). The benefit would not be that there would be many more fans there than at Nippert...it is that it would be interesting to see which might get more people to a game like San Diego State.

Uh, he says we are not a candidate for the Big 12. We aren't. He doesn't say that if we were offered we wouldn't go. He is saying that we are unlikely to get offered if they expand. He is correct.

Just guessing, but if there's any truth to all this blather regarding a big raid by the B12 on the ACC, then we could actually be a more realistic candidiate to get an offer there(the ACC) if they want to expand westward. UConn and Rutgers reallly don't add much in the way of new markets, and I don't know if if would make a difference, but hasn't BC supposedly been black balling UConn anyway?

Cincinnati doesn't meet the academic standards of the ACC, they are on par in research though.

While I agree with Bearcat Bounce regarding historic academic standards of the ACC one could make the case that this will be a sea change if some combination of Clemson/FSU/Miami leave for the B12. Louisville isn't as strong academically as UC, but Louisville/Cincy would make interesting additions to the ACC footprint that will already extend into the Ohio River Valley with Pitt. One gets the sense that it could also hasten some merger or alliance between the remaining eastern Big East football schools and the ACC.

Exactly what are those standards?

ACC is an academic elitist conference like the B1G. I believe every school is in the top 75 of the USA today rankings, UC is in the 140's.

So for argument's sake, suppose the ACC is raided and needs to replace teams. Who are they gonna turn to? Maybe I'm wrong, but UConn, Rutgers and UL aren't exactly academic juggernauts.

Doesn't matter. If we don't put more butts in Nippert, and the Shoe for that matter, we're not going to be an expansion target for any conference, even the ACC.

Rutgers is pretty solid. They are an AAU member. UL is far behind the other schools (including UC) in quality of academics.

UC's ranking is climbing, though. USN&WR is a fishy system because a big portion of the criteria is from 'peer assessment.' But in terms of tangible metrics such as endowment (we would have the 7th largest endowment of the new 14 member ACC), research and acceptance rate (UC's acceptance rate of 61.6% is more selective than Virginia Tech (67%) and is comparable to Florida St. (59.5%), Syracuse (59.7%), Pitt (57.5) and Clemson (57%)), UC does just fine.

Rutgers and Connecticut are both in the top 75. Assuming they'd lose 2 teams, the ACC would grab those 2 (unless they can get ND).

The BC AD stated they did not want UCONN in the ACC because they want to have the distinction of being "New England's team". One team cannot block someone for joining so I imagine some others sided with BC. From what I have observed on their boards, there seems to be a lot of resentment from various ACC schools towards UCONN that stems from litigation/handling of matters after the first raid. UCONN apparently was not willing to let things go and things got pretty heated. Not saying these issues still resonate at the President level, but it is something that is consistently brought up on ACC boards.

As someone else noted, if a couple teams leave the conference I imagine they might have to soften their stance on tryign to be a blue blood conference that also excels at all sports.
