For me this is a bigger concern during basketball season because ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU could have up to three or four Big East games on during any weeknight.

Fox doesn't have the national sports network to work with; however Fox is behind the Big Ten Network and starting a Big East Network could work too. Heck it doesn't have to be Fox it could be NBC, CBS, or ESPN.

CBS has CBS Sports Network but you are not breaking through on Saturday and moving the SEC from primetime.

NBC would only have tier one, So you don't worry about them past that. Espn is just as likely to want tier 2 esp with BB. If you get some games on NBC over air it is huge. 2nd tier will be what it will be, it mostly is about the $$$, same for tier 3. No matter who you have tier 2 and 3 with, you will be behind the big 4 as to where your games are placed. With NBC you will be the big dog conf. They may actually want a pretty big piece for tier one so they have games both for network and NBC sports.

You have a great point here. For a league like the BE, tier 2 BB games are as good as tier 1 most other leagues. So, maybe ESPiN will have that in their plans.

USA Network, Spike, Sci Fi and Bravo are all part of the Comcast family of networks. I don't know if that is on the table, but there is certainly other stations NBC can offer as alternatives.

Realistically, this is the way I see things shaking out:

Football: NBC Network - 8-14 games
NBC Sports Network - 29-35 games (all games on Saturday)
Big East GOTW package - 1 game per week at Noon, replaces current package with ESPN+
Rest of games revert to individual schools

Basketball:
CBS - 18 appearances, up from 14 currently
NBC Sports Network - 6 games per week during conference season + conference tournament + select non conference games
ESPN - Big Monday package, Wednesday games
Big East GOTW package
rest revert to individual schools.

Actually, Spike is owned by MTV Networks, a subsidiary of Viacom.

General Mike: Yeah, that would indeed be an ideal scenario. Of course, I'd love for there to be Saturday double and triple-headers on NBC. (I'm sure I'm not the only one either.)

I could see NBC Sports Network Games on Thursday Nights as well. Which I think would be good.

Does ESPN+ own the Tier 3 package right now? I like the package right now, but I'm not sure how much money it generates. It would be cool to keep the "Big East Network" package with a syndication to Altitude, SNY, and other regional/national networks and on ESPN3 still.

I'd rather not go against the NFL on Thursday nights. Just my preference

ESPN owns the tier 3 package right now. They handle all the costs of production and make all the money from selling the game.

Same. Let the ACC/ Big 12/ Pac-12/ etc. get slaughtered on Thursday Night.

If we're selling "INVENTORY" to NBC-SN, then that includes Thursday nights.

I know people don't like Thursday Night games but they don't have a lot of competition sports wise outside of an NFL Network game, NBA on TNT in November, and college games on ESPN and CBS Sports Network.

I just hope a Tier 3 package is widely available like it is now. I can find the Big East Network games on Altitude, ESPN3, etc. Hopefully if the schools handle the Tier 3 after the contract is up with ESPN for it that my school (Boise State) can make it widely available on ESPN3 and Altitude Sports still.

You're always going to have competition for eyes, but for a fledgling network trying to justify a contract with a league trying to prove itself, going against the NFL is not the best course of action. JMO

NBC Sports Network needs content and games, if there's nothing on Thursday Nights they'll show Big East football.

Football on NFL Network has been pretty feast or famine anyways, I think you are making too big of a deal out of going up against the NFL. A lot of those games are pretty bad match-ups and it's not like going up against every other game in college football is any better than going up against an NFL Network game.

I realize they are going to have to fill it with content, but if the big east football deal is going to be the bell cow (for the time being), I just think they might try to drive up the ratings as much as possible to justify whatever contract they throw at us. They could put the big east at any night at any time, why do it thursday as opposed to wednesday or friday? If they put it on thursday, fine, but I just think there could be better options, that's all.

As far as the NFL network's numbers are concerned, they seem to be doing alright. "Last year’s edition of Thursday Night Football was the most-watched in the network’s history with a record average of 7.3 million viewers per game (including OTAs)." (source- http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/04...ed/129640/) And that is a network that is seen in only 58 million households.

We really need to see if that network is going to be basic cable for a majority of the cable systems out there. As of now, it clearly is not.

Good point. Here in Baton Rouge (COX), i get NBCSN, but it is out there on the dial, so to speak. You get it as part of a "bonus pak", if you buy any advanced TV pack, so it's not on basic cable.

NBC Sports is also not part of basic cable through Time Warner in SW Ohio.

NBC Sports Network is also not available to anyone on Dish Network unless it's the highest tiered package. Which is a shame because I will miss watching Boise State on TV unless that gets resolved by the Olympics which it could.

Been watching NBC Sports Network this weekend a lot, US National team killing Scotland, MLS game and the Canada-USSR hockey special.

Excellent quality, especially the live game coverage.

The Big East would be a GREAT addition.

Being a new member, I gotta tell you that all of the options posted in this thread sound good to me!

NBC/NBC-SN has the BEST video quality to me by far. I'm on DirecTV, but it seems like they use a higher grade of camera or something.

I like the above the most, although I'd like to see FOX involved in CBS' place.

Question: Is the Big East Network "owned" or co-owned by ESPN? Would like FoxSportsnet involved with their entire cadre of sports channels that are geographical.

They don't have college hoops now (unless I'm forgetting something?) and they may want to invest in this arena. PLUS, given our nat'l scope as a conference, the nBE would probably be very enticing from the Fox Sportsnet perspective; i.e. FOXSW may pick up Houston/SMU games, FOXW/W2/etc. may pick up Boise/SDSU/etc. games, FOXOH/CIN/etc. may pick up games in the midwest (Lousiville/Cincy/etc.) games...

Thoughts?

On uVerse in Atlanta, NBC Sports is on package plan #200. Same level as ESPN, etc. CBS SN and many others are only on plan #450, much more expensive.

And in Atlanta overall, Versus (now NBC Sports) is on several local basic cable packages (so are ESPN and ESPN2). As is F/X and a couple other NBC-owned channels.

I actually think NBC could showcase more accessible games than could ESPN, especially considering we could be fifth choice or worse in FB most times, on ESPN. Not so with NBC. I'm not a network expert, so I'm just making some logical assumptions, I think.
