Another Big East realignment option - 15 teams
I keep hearing the number 14-team or 16-team for football thrown around but I thought why cant we work this with 15. The assumption is that conference semi-final format gets approved for football.

West
--------------
Bosie St
SDSU
AFA
Navy
Fresno/BYU

Central
--------
Louisville
Memphis
Cincy
Houston
SMU

East
--------
Uconn
Temple
Rutgers
UCF
USF

This makes the West division football only.
Play 8 game schedule 4 from your division and 2 each from others.
The champs of each division and 1 wildcard gets into conference playoff.
This way Boise St, SDSU, AFA and Fresno St can all be in the WAC with New Mex St and Idaho for olympic sports. (The teams can also play New Mex St and Idaho in non conference games allowing those two teams of having a chance to survive as an independent.).

The basketball divisions can be left almost the same in an 18 team format to create as much continued rivalries.

Central
--------------------
Louisville
Memphis
Cincy
N Dame
Houston
SMU

Couples
--------
Marquette
Depaul
Temple
Rutgers
UCF
USF

East
--------
Uconn
Providence
S Hall
St Johns
G'Town
V' Nova

In this scenario you can go to a 16 game conference schedule playing everyone including home and home for your division and 3 each from the other two division or 18 with 4 each from other divisions or 22 and play everyone. Most every team is the same in football and basketball division to continue rivalries in all sports (other then Uconn sliding over to the east).

This is what happens when I sit on long boring conference calls :-)

Will never happen... This is one off the main reasons why the Alliance failed, they would have never gotten an inter-conference playoff approved by the NCAA.

Correct - though the probablity of it changing is possible if SEC goes to 16 and decides to push for it like they did for the conference champion when none existed prior.

I know people hate hearing this....but you will have to hold a slot for Villanova in the 16th slot for the forseeable future.

I doubt it actually ever happens....but I think they have spent so much time talking about it....I doubt they will shut that door until Villanova comes to the conclusion not to move up.

SEC already tried to get a conference semi-final game and was denied. They'll be denied again. Since the premise of this post is on a conference semi-final game this will never, ever happen.

I think you will see it allowed for conferences with 16 teams, that will allow the Big 4 to get to super conference status and make more money, we need to at least be ready for it when/if it happens.

I disagree. I think 'Nova had the door politely shut on them when we invited Temple. Now, if it ever came down to 'Nova and say, ODU, then yes, lol. Fresno would make more sense as #16, if we got there.

With three divisions of 5 each how do you have a championship game? 05-nono For that reason this format won't work.

At this point... I might be close to impossible for Fresno State to be added. BE seem hell bent on BYU and AFA (with rea$on).

But if one of the two go a different direction (which is very possible)....Fresno State should be next.

I don't think both BYU and Air Force are coming to the Big East...Just too many options out there and variables.

They are only adding one more school correct? So it looks like at least one of them will say Yes. It sounds like to me that BE will go to BYU and ask if they say yes great end of adding. If they say "No" then they they will go to AFA. At that point BE will know how much money to expect from TV deal so AFA at that point will be in if the money is worth it. This is why I say it is pretty close to impossible for Fresno State to get in now.

The only way Fresno State gets in is that BW request them when and/or if adding BSU and at this point BSU has other option other than BW. So again unlikely. I think it would have been great and I am stilll holding out for a possibility.

Money isn't the only factor they'd choose BYU over Fresno or AF. Right now it all has to equate to stability. AF and BYU would lend to that and even Boise and SDSU have one foot in and one foot out. We need this to happen before the TV negotiations and Fresno isn't even close to BYU and AF, as far as TV goes.

Not a bad idea. Or we wait and see if the PAC 10 takes Texas, Tex Tech, OK, Okie State and Tex A&M and it sends the rest of the Big 12 to the Big East! 04-high5
