RE: SBC Meetings release...
Its going to be VERY interesting to see where USA stacks up with TROY in the 4th game of the season. And the fact that TROY is USA's First SBC game...

We beat you for recruits this year because we could pull the FBS card. Really, I am not trashing GSU; its just how it is.

I think our too biggest impact changes will be our new S&C Ben Pollard ( formerly of TCU, Alabama, Texas A&M and Mississippi State), The changes were already apparent this Spring. The other major change was the elevation of our Special Teams and DB coach Anthony Midget to DC and the installation of the 4-2-5 defense. That is going to be fun to watch

I really like what the new OC is doing at South, but I am a little concerned with the installation of a new offense coinciding with a large jump in competition. Honestly I am expecting two wins next seasons and if we upset one FBS team I'll be all giddy.

Look at each of the first three years of your schedule, and each of the first three years of our schedule - there is no comparison. Come 2013, we will be in a much better place than USA is right now.

That is behind us, yes.
Well, I agree with that. The response was someone saying we are a couple of years behind you guys. I think we're pretty level and one year behind.
Sue me, I'm sensitive about my program.

RE: SBC Meetings release...
The move to stay at 10 for football probably means UTA announces a football program by this time next year. It also gives the SBC spots to entice UNF and FGCU to start football programs. When CUSA has to make another move, we lose MT and FAU, the SBC could reload with UNF, FGCU, App State, and GA Southern.
The CUSA and SBC will have a natural rivalry due to the number of past conference mates and fan interest. These would be good OOC games.
UTSA vs Texas State
Troy vs UAB
UAB vs USA
GSU vs UAB
ASU vs UNT
ULL vs UNT
Texas State vs UTEP
La Tech vs ULL
USA vs Tulane
GSU vs Tulane
FAU vs FIU
MT vs UNCC

I looked and your 2011 schedule and it had an NAIA team instead of an extra FBS team. Really don't want to get into one of these silly facts arguments but there is a distinct difference in last years schedules between our institutions. My point was UTSA and USA got beat up more than GSU did. You played UA in 2010 but lost to USA in Mobile, which would kind of support my argument that having a harder schedule hurts. Although the UA game did come after the USA game so maybe it is USA who did the beating up
edit: Double sorry, I evidently was looking at two different schedules and Lambuth was replaced with St. Francis. So only one NAIA unless I made yet another error.
I may have to retract my statement on UTSA having a harder schedule. I'm not sure any of their 2011 teams were FBS. Someone can correct me as it is way too late for this sort of non-sense.

RE: SBC Meetings release...
FYI!
Sun Belt shuts door on LibertyQuote:Liberty athletics director Jeff Barber, who was watching the Flames at the Big South baseball tournament, confirmed the university had made contact with the Sun Belt in regards to membership.
"We’re not totally surprised by it," Barber said. "I think they’re one of the leagues that’s been determining what is the next step, what is the right thing for them to do. As he said, at this time, they’re not looking to do any more.

RE: SBC Meetings release...
I wouldnt expect FIU to want to continue playing FAU after this coming up year. I mean the "rivalry" is 2-8 for them so far. The only years they have won are the years FAU went 2-10 and 1-11. Even looking at it rationally. A victory over FAU counts for nothing except pride, a loss to FAU keeps them from getting to 6 games.
We will have to see if FAU can spike attendance for the "last" shula bowl up at our new stadium. Its not like FAU fans really wanted to go down to their stadium. Note the highest attended shula bowl was 17,543 at lockhart. Even last year in a bowl year FIU couldnt fill their stadium for it (17,378).

I wasn't comparing calendar years, I was comparing our first year to your first year. You started in 2009, we started in 2010. So, we are a year behind you, but I believe well ahead of you in terms of where we are at this point in our development.

You're really don't have any expansion candidates now that CUSA went to 14 so the Sun Belt is safe from further poaching. I think the Belt will be a stronger conference than ever before with the new additions. Right now the best thing to do is let USA, GSU and TX St get full speed at FBS and develop before pursuing anybody else. Just win some OCC games (I'll be rooting for Ark St to beat Oregon) and be really competitive.
