[Archived Thread] ODAF Donations
Just yesterday I got a postcard in the mail from the Old Dominion Athletic Fund. Said if every Alumnus that hasn't donated yet would donate $20, the total would be almost $1 million dollars (the number was precise, somewhere in the upper $900,000s). It also gave the # of Alums contacted vs. the # of Alums who donated. Not a good ratio..

This made me curious.

Have you, or will you, increase your donation amount because of our announcement to move to C-USA?

Any other changes that you'll make based on our decision to leave the Richmond Athletic League?

RE: ODAF Donations
I don't currently donate, but will pitch in something this fall when I renew my basketball tickets, even if just $200.

I donate. I can't donate any more than I do right now with life changes.

RE: ODAF Donations
I'm headed into my senior year at ODU and just sent in my first donation to ODAF. It's only $100 but as a huge proponent for the move to CUSA, this is my way of saying 'thank you' to Wood and Broderick for their diligence to grow and improve our athletic department.

I plan on increasing about 20%. I do the monthly plan and don't miss it as bad. I started out at $300 ($25/mo).

RE: ODAF Donations
I just started donating on the day the move to C-USA was announced. Figured it was symbolic and $60/month didn't seem too bad.

RE: ODAF Donations
My donation doubled this year, prior to the announcement. Beleive it or not, the driving factor was tailgating proximity to Foreman Field and adding some folks into the Smitty group ODU experience.

RE: ODAF Donations
Ive been an BBC/ODAF member w minimum donation since 2003. I started donating "real" money when we started football and have increased 10% each year to get the 110% Club magnet. I'll continue the annual 10% increase as long as I can. This was my plan before we announced CUSA. Although I love the move, I'll still stick to this level of support bc at this time it's simply the best I can do.

Yeah a a big part of donating is points for seating priority. I also buy season fix for my parents thru me so that helps.

RE: ODAF Donations
Yeah, I never worried about basketball. I am happy with my seats and there isn't a bad one in the house. Was going to donate last year for Big Blue Room tickets, but taking away the free beer nixed that. As far as football goes, I don't have/can't get tickets so seating is kind of inconsequential. Have to rely on Craigslist for that.

RE: ODAF Donations
I think every fan who posts here should be a donor. You don't have to donate a lot, but just donate something!

I've been a donor for years and always increase my donation each year. Like DaBigBlue, I pay monthly so that it is more affordable. One of the motivating factors is definitely seating for football and basketball, but we should all want to support our program to the best of our ability without worrying about "what's in it for me" (paying for $2/beer in the Big Blue Room is no big deal and it's actually made the pre-game experience a lot nicer without all the people who used to cram in there just for the free beers).

When you think about the growth our basketball and football programs recently, who wouldn't want to contribute to make it even better? More than ever, our programs is going to rely on fan donations, so dig in those pockets and ante up!

(No, I do not work for ODAF.) :-)

The $2 beers weren't the issue (I'm going to have beer either way) as much as if I am paying for beer, I'd rather pay for a good one and park my arse on a barstool. Taking away the free beer made the big blue room no longer a benefit for me. The ODUAF provides benefits to donor levels to etice donations and frankly, I am unable to afford a donation that would provide a benfit. The CUSA jump gave me the motivation, however. I want to be the first one called for a season ticket offer once stadium expansion is complete.

I will double my donation next year. I want better parking, so I will go from $500 to $1000.

Gave $1000 in 2001 and have increased by approx. 12% each year since. (You can do the math.) Don't see that continuing as C-USA will be much less of a participation activity due to the diatances. Less participation. Less interest.

What if we could look back from the future of ODU athletics and see that C-USA was an essential stepping stone to joining the ACC in 12-15 years.... but if people soured to C-USA... stopped participating... after VaTech left, the ACC invite never came.

DancinMonarch-

Sorry to hear this, but not surprising considering your view of this move. I, for one, certainly hope that the games and budding rivalries are enough to keep you involved and engaged - you are and have been a valuable and respected member of this community.

It is important to note that I don't hope that it goes badly. I just think that it will. If it does go well, as an honest person, I will gladly admit to my error.

No need to admit anything (this isn't a confessional), just enjoy yourself.

RE: ODAF Donations
If ODU adds seats to the Ted and Foreman I'd be more inclined to donate more, but as is it's set up for people living in Hampton Roads with 80% of the tickets for season sales. I just can't see donating $500 and not even being able to find tickets for any of the games I want to see. It is impossible with work & location for me to attend more than a few games of each sport, making season tickets not realistic... and why I attend many away games.

As is, just donating $50-$100 each year and won't change for now.

RE: ODAF Donations
It isn't the $1000 donors that will make or break. It is the high donors that pledged the $3. Million to make it happen and that present checks at halftime of games. Don't get me wrong, they like your money, but if a decent chunk of $1,000 donors bailed, it wouldn't make rhat much of a difference
